Cucumber Potholder Pattern #3232

Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"STAR" PEARL COTTON, SIZE 5
2 60-yd. Balls Green.
3 yds. White for Trim.
Small Piece of Material about 7 x 8 inches for lining.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

Ch 72, d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each of the next 54 chs, 1 s d c in each of the next 10 chs, (s d c: thread over, insert in st, pull through and work off all loops at one time) 1 s c in each of the next 4 chs, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row—Working in back loop of st only, 1 s c in each of the next 4 s c, 1 s d c in each of the next 10 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 53 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, ch 2, turn.
3rd Row—Working in front loop of st only, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 53 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 10 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 4 sts, ch 1, turn and repeat the last 2 rows 13 times, break thread.
Thread White into needle and working on a ridge, pull thread through from wrong side about 1½ inches from top, work over 2 sts on right side, insert needle between next 2 sts and pull thread through to wrong side, thread over next 2 sts on wrong side and pull through to right side, insert needle at base of first st and pull through to wrong side, continue in same manner for about 3½ inches, work each stripe about 1 inch apart. Potholder illustrated has 6 stripes varying in length.
Cut a lining from any suitable material same shape as potholder allowing ¼ inch all around to turn under, sew in position on inside of potholder.
Attach thread at bottom of potholder and work 28 s c across row, join together and work 1 s c in every other s c.
Next Row—1 s c in every other s c, break thread leaving an end. Thread into needle and sew together. Attach thread at top and work 28 s c across top, join and work 1 s c in every other s c.
Next Row—1 s c in every other s c, break thread.
STEM. Ch 4, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 1 s c in each ch, without joining rows work 1 s c in each s c picking up back loop of st only, continue in same manner until stem measures 5 inches, break thread and sew to top as illustrated.
