Liberty Hat Pattern #PC-1323

MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 2 balls of Skipper Blue.
J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, size 5, 1 ball each of Red and White for trim.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 6.
Wind Knit-Cro-Sheen into 4 equal balls.

Use 4 threads throughout.

   Starting at tip of Crown, ch 17. 1st rnd: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, then work along other side of starting chain, making sc in each ch across (32 sc). 2nd rnd: * 3 sc in next sc (2 sc increased), sc in next 15 sc. Repeat from * once more. 3rd, 4th and 5th rnds: * Sc in sc to within center sc of 3 sc-group, 3 sc in center sc. Repeat from * once more (48 sc at end of 5th rnd). 6th, 7th and 8th rnds: Sc in each sc around. Mark the center of one side of Crown with a safety pin. This pin indicates where increases are made to form center back of Hat. 9th rnd: Sc in each sc to pin mark, 3 sc at pin mark, sc in each sc to end of rnd. 10th rnd: Sc in each sc around. 11th rnd: Sc in each sc to sc directly above center sc of 3 sc-group, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each sc around. 12th rnd: Sc in each sc around. 13th rnd: Repeat the 11th rnd. 14th to 19th rnds incl: Sc in each sc to center sc of 3 sc-group, 3 sc in center sc, sc to end of rnd. Now work 8 rnds without increasing. At end of last rnd make sc in next 10 sc, sl st in next 2 sc. Break off.

TRIM … With Blue Knit-Cro-Sheen, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: 10 sc in ring. Join with sl st. Break off. 2nd rnd: Attach 4 threads of White and make 2 sc in each sc around (20 sc). Join. 3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around. Join and break off. 4th and 5th rnds: Attach 4 threads of Red and make sc in each sc around. Break off after the 5th rnd. Turn Hat inside out and sew the two ends of starting chain together securely. Turn Hat right side out and sew Trim to Hat as in illustration.
