MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 2 balls of any color.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 8.
1 yard each of 2 contrasting color ribbons.
Wind thread into 4 equal balls.

Use 4 threads throughout.

SKULL CAP … Starting at center, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: 10 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around. 4th rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 5th to 11th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. Break off.

BERET … Starting at center, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: 11 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around. 4th rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 5th and 6th rnds: Sc in each sc around. 7th rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (88 sc). 8th to 18th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. 19th rnd: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 8 sc at equal distances apart—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc.
   Repeat the last rnd 5 more times (40 sc remain at end of last rnd). Work 2 rnds without decreasing. Break off after the last rnd.
   Make a pleat at the 3rd row down from center and tack edges together securely on wrong side. Place Skull Cap in line with stitching just made and sew in place (this is back of Beret). Make 2 green bows and 2 red bows with ribbon and sew one of each color on each side of tuck at center top of Beret and at back of Beret.
