These pretty mats can also be used for dressing and cheval sets.

MATERIALS.—Ardern's crochet cotton No. 22 (old ticket number) or No. 60 (new ticket number). Six balls will make a set for four. Tatting shuttle.

MEASUREMENTS.—Center mat 16½ ins., place mat ins. 9½ ins., glass mat 5½ ins. diameter.

LARGE MAT.

CENTER.
Ring.—3 ds. (1 p. 4 ds.) 7 times, 1 p., 1 ds., close ring, tie and cut.

ROUND 1.
*Ring.—4 ds. (1 p., 4 ds.) twice, join to p. of center ring, 4 ds. (1 p., 4 ds.) twice, close ring, r.w.
Chain.—3 ds. (1 p. ds.) 5 times, r.w. Repeat from * to end of round, joining 2nd p. of each ring to 4th p. of previous ring, and join­ing 4th picot of last ring to 2nd of first ring. Tie and cut.

ROUND 2.
*Ring.—4 ds. (1 p., 4 ds.) twice, join to center p. of chain of previous round, 4 ds. (1 p., 4 ds.) twice, close ring, r.w.
Chain.—3 ds. (1 p., 3 ds.) 5 times, r.w.
Ring.—3 ds., 1 p. (3 ds., join to next p. of chain) twice, 3 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., close ring r.w.
Chain.—3 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., r.w.
Ring.—3 ds., join to last p. of previous ring (3ds., join to next p. of next chain) twice, 3 ds., 1 p., 3 ds., close ring, r.w.
Chain.—3 ds. (1 p., 3 ds.) 5 times, r.w. Repeat from * to end of round, tie and cut.

ROUND 3.
Join thread to center p. of chain with 5 ps.
