Three Little Bears Patterns

Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD "AUNT LYDIA'S"
HEAVY RUG YARN
4—70 yd. skeins Spice for Large Bear
3—70 yd. skeins Spice for Me­dium Bear
2—70 yd. skeins Spice for Small Bear
3  yds. Watermelon (all Bears) Aluminum Crochet Hook Size J OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW
24 inch square Gold felt Scraps Black, Brown, Orange, Chartreuse and White felt for all Bears.
Glue
Shredded Foam Rubber or Kapok for filling

GAUGE: 5 sts = 2 inches

LARGE BEAR

BODY: Ch 5, join to form a ring. Work 8 s c in ring, do not join. Place a marker at beg of each round. 2nd ROUND: 2 s c in each sc. 3rd ROUND: Work in s c throughout inc to 19 s c.
4th ROUND: Inc to 21 s c.
5th ROUND: Inc to 29 s c.
6th ROUND: Inc to 35 s c.
7th ROUND: Inc to 41 s c.
8th ROUND: Inc to 48 s c.
9th ROUND: Inc to 51 s c.
10th ROUND: Inc to 54 s c.
11th ROUND: Inc to 58 s. c.
12th ROUND: Inc to 62 s c.
13th through 33rd ROUNDS: Work even, cut yarn.

DIVIDE SECTION IN HALF FOR LEGS: Working through both sec­tions at center only attach yarn in center, work 1 s c in 31 s c around. NEXT 9 ROUNDS: Work even on the 31 s c, cut yarn. Attach yarn at center and com­plete 2nd leg.

ARMS: (Work 2). Work same as body for 3 rounds. 4th ROUND: Inc to 23 sc. 5th through 12th ROUNDS: Work even, cut yarn. EARS: (Work 2). Ch 10, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch. 2nd ROW: 1 s c in each s c. 3rd and 4th ROWS: Inc 1 st in 1st and last st. 5th ROW: Work even. 6th through 8th ROWS: Dec 1st and last st, cut yarn. Attach yarn at corner and work a row of sc around 3 sides, cut yarn.

MEDIUM BEAR

Work 1st 8 rounds same as Body of Large Bear. 9th through 31st ROUNDS: Work even, cut yarn.

LEGS: Divide in half same as Large Bear and work across 24 s c for each leg for 8 rounds, cut yarn.

ARMS: (Work 2). Ch 5, join and work 6 s c in ring. 2nd ROUND: Without joining work 2 s c in each st. 3rd ROUND: Inc to 15 s c. 4th ROUND: Inc to 18 s c. 5th through 9th ROUNDS: Work even, cut yarn.

EARS: (Work 2). Ch 8, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each re­maining st of ch, ch 1 to turn each row. 2nd and 3rd ROWS: Work even. 4th ROW: Inc 1 st at each end. 5th ROW: Work even. 6th and 7th ROWS: Dec 1 st at each end, cut yarn. Attach yarn at corner and work s c around 3 sides.

SMALL BEAR

BODY: Ch 5, join. Work 7 s c in ring. 2nd ROUND: 2 s c in each st. 3rd ROUND: Inc to 17 sc. 4th ROUND: Inc to 20 sc. 5th ROUND: Inc to 26 sc. 6th ROUND: Work even. 7th ROUND: Inc to 33 s c. 8th ROUND: Inc to 36 sc. 9th through 26th ROUNDS: Work even, cut yarn.

LEGS: (Work 2). Ch 26, join. Work 1 s c in each st of ch. 2nd through 6th ROUNDS: Without joining rounds work 1 s c in each s c, cut yarn.

ARMS: (Work 2). Ch 5, join. Work 6 s c in ring. 2nd ROUND: 2 sc in each sc. 3rd ROUND: Inc to 16 s c. 4th through 7th ROUNDS: Work even, cut yarn.

EARS: (Work 2). Ch 6, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch. 2nd ROW: Work even. 3rd and 4th ROWS: Inc in 1st and last st. 5th ROW: Dec 1st and last s c. 6th and 7th ROWS: Repeat last row, cut yarn. Attach yarn in corner and work s c around 3 sides.

FINISHING: Fill body sections with shredded foam rubber or kapok. Outline feet and cut sec­tions from Gold felt. Sew in place to feet. Cut Gold felt slightly smaller than ears and sew in place to inside of ears. Cut a 5½ inch circle of Gold felt and sew to last row of small bear for bottom. Cut a 2 inch, a 1¾ inch and a 1½ inch oval for each hand for the large, medium and small bear. Glue in place. Cut Brown circles for eyes having circles 1¼, 1 and ¾ inch in size for Large, Medium and Small bears. Cut White circles slightly larger. Overlap the Brown circle over the White as illustrated and glue in place. Cut eyelashes as illustrated from brown felt for Medium bear. Cut eyebrows as il­lustrated for all bears. Finish the large bear with collar of White felt, tie of Black felt and Vest of Gold felt as illustrated. Cut mouths as illustrated from Orange felt and noses from black felt and glue in place. Take 18 four inch strands of Watermelon and tie in center. Sew to head. Sew feet in posi­tion to front of Small Bear. Sew arms in position to side of body.

HAT: Cut a 3½ inch circle from Chartreuse felt. Cut a strip of Chartreuse felt 1½ X 6 inches. Seam short end. Sew in place to circle. Finish with a Black felt strip ½ inch x 6 inches. Seam and sew in place. Sew Hat in position for Large Bear.
