CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 PLY
ART. E. 232: 12 Skeins (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull Out Skeins) of No. 230 Yellow and 10 skeins each of No. 253 Tangerine and No. 328 Beige and 16 skeins of No. 360 Wood Brown.
Plastic Crochet Hook No. 6.

GAUGE: Each chevron measures 3 1/2 inches across; 4 rows make 2 3/4 inches.

Starting at bottom with Wood Brown. ch 211 loosely.

1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make dc in next 2 ch, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (2 dc cluster made), * dc in next 5 ch, 5 dc in next ch, dc in next 5 ch, make 5 dc cluster over next 5 ch. Repeat from * across, until 13 chevrons have been completed (row should measure about 45 inches), ending with 3 dc cluster over the last 3 ch. Break off. (Do not turn, all rows are worked on same side.)

2nd row: Attach Beige to first cluster at beginning of previous row, ch 3, make 2 dc cluster over next 2 dc, * dc in next 4 dc, holding back on hook last loop of next dc make dc in next dc, drop Beige, draw a loop of Wood Brown through last loop on hook (thus changing color)--always change color in this manner--working over unused color with Wood Brown make 5 dc in next dc, changing color on last dc, always working over unused color make dc in next 5 dc, make 5 dc cluster over next 5 dc. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 dc cluster. Break off both colors.

3rd row: Attach Yellow to first cluster at beginning of previous row, ch 3, make 2 dc cluster over next 2 dc, * dc in next 5 dc, 5 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, 5 dc cluster over next 5 dc. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 dc cluster. Break off.

4th row: Attach Tangerine to first cluster at beginning of previous row, ch 3, make 2 dc cluster over next 2 dc, * dc in next 5 dc, 5 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, changing color to Wood Brown, working over unused color, make 5 dc cluster over next 5 dc, change color. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 dc cluster. Break off both colors.

5th row: Attach Wood Brown to first cluster at beginning of previous row, work as for 3rd row. Repeat 2nd to 5th rows incl. until piece measures 61 1/4 inches, ending with 5th row. Fasten all ends securely. Block to measurements.

POMPON (Make 27) . . . Wind Wood Brown 25 times around a pencil, then thread a needle with a double strand of yarn. Insert needle through center of loops and tie securely. Cut ends and trim evenly. Sew a Pompon to each point of chevron.
