CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply
Art. E. 232: 23 skeins (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 253 Tangerine and 35 skeins of No. 1 White.
Plastic Crochet Hook No. 6.
Each motif measures 5 1/2 inches square.
Afghan measures 44 x 66 inches.

MOTIF (Make 96). . . Starting at center with Tangerine, ch 5. Join with st st, to form ring.

1st rnd: 8 sc in ring. Join.

2nd rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, leaving the last 2 loops of last dc on hook, draw a loop of White through loops on hook--thus changing color (always change color in this manner), * working over unused color and holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make 3 dc in next sc, with Tangerine, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made); working over White, make 3 dc in next sc, change color. Repeat from * around ending with White cluster, change color. Join to top of ch-3.

3rd rnd: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, change color, cluster in same dc, change color, 2 dc in same dc (corner made), dc in next dc, in next cluster and in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

4th rnd: Change color, sl st in next dc, ch 3, make a 2-dc cluster in same dc, * change color, dc in next dc, 5 dc in next cluster, dc in next dc, change color, cluster in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join to tip of first cluster.

5th rnd: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, dc in next dc, * change color, cluster in next dc, change color, 5 dc in next dc, change color, cluster in next dc, change color, dc in next 2 dc, in next cluster and in next dc, change color, cluster in next dc, change color, dc in next dc, in next cluster and in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join. Break off Tangerine.

6th rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, sc in back loop of each st around, making 3 sc through both loops of center dc at corners. Join and turn.

7th and 8th rnds: Sc in back loop of each sc, making 3 sc in each corner sc. Join. Break off at end of 8th rnd.

Sew motifs neatly together, making 8 rows of 12 motifs.

BORDER. . . 1st rnd: With wrong side facing, attach White to back loop of any corner sc, 3 sc in same place, sc in back loop of each sc around, making 3 sc in each corner sc. Join and turn.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th rnds: Sc in back loop of each sc, making a 3 sc in each corner sc. Join and turn. Break off at end of 4th rnd. Block to measurements.
