This free pattern originally published by Coats & Clark in Afghans and Matching Pillows, Book 505, in 1954.

CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E. 232: 35 skeins (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 12 Black and 15 skeins of No. 515 Dk. Turquoise for Afghan; 7 skeins of Black and 4 skeins of Dk. Turquoise for each Large Pillow, and 5 skeins of Black and 3 skeins of Dk. Turquoise for Small Pillow.
Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No. 5.
2 pillows 18 inches square; 1 pillow 14 inches square.
Each block measures 3 1/2 inches square.
Afghan measures 45 1/2 x 66 1/2 inches;
Pillows 18 and 14 inches square.
STRIPED BLOCK (Make 123) . . . Starting at bottom with Dk. Turquoise, ch 17.
1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch, * sc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch. Repeat from * across. Drop Turquoise, do not turn.
2nd row: Attach Black to first dc, sc in same place, sc in next dc, * dc in next 2 sc, sc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * across, drop Black, pick up Turquoise. Ch3, turn.
3rd row: Dc in first 2 sc, * sc in next 2 dc, dc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * across, do not turn.
4th row: Pick up Black and work as for 2nd row. Repeat last 2 rows alternately until 9 rows have been completed. Break off.
SOLID BLOCK (Make 124) . . .With Black work exactely as for Striped Block until first row has been completed. Ch 3, turn.
2nd row: Repeat 3rd row of Striped Block. Ch 3, turn. Complete in pattern as for Striped Block.
To Join Blocks: Sew a Solid Block and a Striped Block together alternately until 19 blocks are joined. Continue sewing blocks together in checkerboard fashion until 13 rows have been joined. Block to measurements given.
LARGE PILLOWS . . . Make 13 Solid Blocks and 12 Striped Blocks for each side and sew together as before. Block to measurements. With wrong sides facing, sew together until 3 sides have been joined, insert pillow and sew remaining side.
CORD . . . Cut 6 strands of each color 6 yards long, double Black strands to form a loop, then draw Turquoise strands through loop and double, twist these strands tightly, then double at joining and twist in the opposite direction. Knot loose ends. Sew Cord neatly around pillow.
TASSEL (Make 4) . . . Cut a piece of cardboard 3 x 5 inches. Wind a strand of Black and a strand of Turquoise 10 times around narrow width of cardboard. Tie a double strand of Black around center of strands, remove from cardboard, cut opposite ends, then wind a piece of Black around tassel 1/2 inch from top, tie ends securely. Sew a tassel to each corner of pillow.
SMALL PILLOW . . . Make 8 blocks of each color for each side and complete as for other pillows.
