Sizes 1—2 and 3 Yrs.

MATERIALS:
1 Size 5 Plastic Crochet Hook
1½ 4-oz. Skeins 4-ply Knitting Worsted

GAUGE: App. 3½ sts to 1 in.

BACK: Ch 36, (2 yr. ch 42—3 yr. ch 48). Work 7 rows of s c then work in pattern as follows:
Row 1—Ch 3, 1 d c in first st, skip 1 st, * 3 d c in next st, skip 2 sts; repeat from * ending with skip 1 st, 1 d c in last st.
Rows 2—3 and 4—Work 1 s c in each st.
Repeat above 4 rows until piece measures 5½ (2 yr. 6 in.—3 yr. 7 in.) or desired length to underarm. Slip st over first 3 sts for underarm and work to within last 3 sts (29 sts remaining for 1 yr. size—35 sts for 2 yr.—and 41 sts for 3 yr.). Work in pattern until piece measures 3½ in., (2 yr. 4 in.—3 yr. 4½ in.) from underarm.

RIGHT FRONT: Starting at shoulder edge, work 3 rows of s c over 7 sts, (2 yr. 8 sts—3 yr. 9 sts) for shoulder. Ch 8 at neck edge (2 yr. ch 10—3 yr. ch 12). Work 3 rows of s c (2 yr. 5 rows—3 yr. 7 rows) then work in pattern as given until piece measures same as back from shoulder to under­arm. Keeping front edge even, ch 3 at underarm edge. Continue in pattern until piece measures same as back from underarm to the s c border at lower edge. Work 7 rows of s c. Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT: Join yarn into 7th st from shoulder edge (2 yr. 8th st—3 yr. 9th st). Work 3 rows of s c ending at shoulder edge. Join a separate strand of yarn at neck edge and ch 7 (2 yr. ch 9—3 yr. ch 11). Fasten off.
Work remainder of left front to correspond to right, working on ch.

SLEEVES: On right side of garment, work 26 s c, (2 yr. 29 sc—3 yr. 32 s c) across armhole edge, being sure to space sts evenly. Work 2 more rows of s c then work in pattern until piece measures 6 in. (2 yr. 7 in.—3 yr. 8 in.) or desired length to cuff. Work 1 row of s c decreasing to 21 sts (2 yr. 24 sts—3 yr. 27 sts). Work 3 rows of sc, (2 and 3 yr. 4 rows) for cuff. Fasten off.
Sew sleeve and underarm seams.

BUTTONHOLE BAND: Starting at lower edge of right front, work 35 s c, (2 yr. 39 sc—3 yr. 43 s c) across front edge, being sure to space sts evenly. Ch 1 turn. Work 1 s c in each of first 2 sts; ch 2 * skip 2 sts, work 1 s c in each of next 5 sts, (2 yr. 6 sts—3 yr. 7 sts); repeat from * ending with ch 2, skip 2, 1 s c in each of the 3 remaining sts.
Work 2 rows of s c st for st. Fasten off.

BUTTON BAND: Work 35 s c, (2 yr. 39 sc—3 yr. 43 s c) across left front edge. Work 3 more rows of s c, st for st. Fasten off.
Work 59 s c, (2 yr. 63 s c—3 yr. 66 s c) around neck edge, being sure to space sts evenly. Fasten off.
