Place Mat: Ch 172. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook and s c in each of next 3 sts of ch. * Ch 4, skip 3 sts and tr in next. Ch 4, skip 3 sts and s c in each of next 5 sts. Repeat from * along ch, ending with 4 s c. 2nd row: Ch 3 (to count as 1st d c) turn. D c in each of next 2 s c, * ch 3, s c in 4th st of ch of previous row, s c over tr, s c in next ch, ch 3, skip 1 s c, and d c into each of next 3 s c. Repeat from * across. 3rd row: Ch 3 (to count as 1st d c), turn. D c in each of next 2 d c, * ch 4, s c over each of 3 s c's of center, ch 4, d c over each of next 3 d c, and repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: S c in each of next 2 d c. * S c in next ch st, ch 3, tr in center s c, ch 3, s c in ch before d c. S c in each of next 3 d c. Repeat from * across, ending row with 4 s c. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: S c across, making s c over each s c of previous row, s c in each st of ch-3, and s c over tr. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: S c in each s c across. Ch 7, turn.
7th row: Skip 4 s c, s c in each of next 5 s c (so that the center s c is over tr of daisy pattern below). * Ch 4, skip 3 s c, tr in next st, ch 4, skip 3 s c, s c in each of next 5 s c. Repeat from * 12 more times. Ch 4, tr in last st of row. Ch 1, turn. 8th row: S c over each of next 2 sts, * ch 3, skip 1 s c in previous row, d c in each of next 3 s c, ch 3, s c in 4th st of ch of previous row, s c over tr, s c in next ch. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 3, s c in 3 center sts of ch-7. Ch 1, turn.
9th row: S c in each of next 2 s c, * ch 3, d c in each of next 3 d c, ch 3, s c over each of 3 s c's of center, repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. * Skip 2 sts of ch below, s c in next, s c over each of next 3 d c's, s c in next ch, ch 3, tr in 2nd s c of center, ch 3, repeat from * across, ending row with tr in last st of previous row. Ch 1, turn. 10th row: S c across, as for 5th row. 11th row: Same as 6th. This completes the pattern. Repeat the 11 rows 9 more times. Then repeat 1st to 5th rows incl.
Edging: S c evenly along side. S c in each st of foundation ch across end, and s c along other side, making 3 s c in each corner.
Next row: * Make a ch-5 picot, s c in each of next 5 s c, and repeat from * around mat, arranging work so that p's are made over each corner. Make 3 more mats.
Center mat: Ch 172 and repeat directions for place mat, repeating the 11 rows of pattern until mat measures about 26 inches long. Finish edging as for mats.
