Make a chain 3 yards long (about 10 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * until there are on row 245 sps (single), 335 sps (double). Cut off remaining ch. Ch 5, turn.

3rd row: (This is right side.) Dc in next dc (sp over sp), make 16 more sps, * make a pc st in next sp—to make a pc st, ch 1, 3 dc in sp, drop loop from hook, insert hook in ch-1 and draw dropped loop through—dc in next dc, make 29 sps. Repeat from * across, ending with pc st, 17 sps. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: Make 16 sps, * make a reverse pc st in next sp—to make a reverse pc st, work as for pc st, only inserting hook in ch-1 from back of work, thus raising pc st to right side—dc in next dc, ch 2, skip pc st, dc in next dc (sp over pc st), reverse pc st, 27 sps. Repeat from * across, ending with reverse pc st, sp, reverse pc st, 16 sps. Ch 5, turn. 5th row: 15 sps, * (pc st, sp) twice; pc st, 25 sps. Repeat from * across, ending with (pc st, sp) twice; pc st, 15 sps. Ch 5, turn. 6th row: 14 sps, * (reverse pc st, sp) 3 times; reverse pc st, 23 sps. Repeat from * across, ending with (reverse pc st, sp) 3 times; reverse pc st, 14 sps. Ch 5, turn. 7th row: 13 sps, * (pc st, sp) 4 times; pc st, 21 sps. Repeat from * across, ending with (pc st, sp) 4 times; pc st, 13 sps. Ch 5, turn.
Starting with the 8th row follow chart to top. The repeat of pattern on each row is area between X's (including sps marked with X's). Work end of each row to correspond with beginning. Continue thus repeating pattern (from 8th row to top of chart) until 10 large and 10 small diamonds have been made. Now work 8th to 30th rows incl and complete 11th large diamond and top of spread to correspond with beginning of piece. Fasten off.

FRINGE … Cut eight 10-inch strands. Double the strands, forming a loop. Insert hook in corner sp and draw loop through; then bring loose ends through loop and pull tight. Make a fringe in every other sp all around. Trim fringe evenly to measure 4 inches.
