Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 30, White or Ecru. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11.

When completed cloth measures about 53 x 63 inches, and requires approximately 61 balls of Clark's O.N.T or 44 balls of J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet.

Gauge: 6 sps make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.

Beginning at bottom of chart, make a chain about 2½ yds. long, turn. 1st row: D c in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch (1 sp), repeat from * until 284 sps are made. Ch 5, turn. Cut off remainder of foundation chain. 2nd to 7th rows incl: Skip ch-2, d c in d c, * ch 2, d c in next d c, repeat from * across, ending row with 1 d c in 3rd st of turning ch (284 sps). Ch 5, turn. 8th row: Make 82 sps, 2 d c in next sp, d c in d c, 2 d c in next sp, d c in d c (2 bls), then 116 sps, 2 bls, 82 sps. Ch 5, turn. 9th row: 81 sps, 2 d c in sp, d c in each of next 7 d c, 2 d c in next sp, d c in next d c (4 bls), 114 sps, 4 bls, 81 sps, ch 5, turn. 10th row: 37 sps, 9 bls, 35 sps, 4 bls, 17 sps, 9 bls, 62 sps, 9 bls, 17 sps, 4 bls, 35 sps, 9 bls, 37 sps. Ch 5, turn. Hereafter follow chart, starting at the 13th row from bottom of chart. The chart shows ¼ of design. To make second half of each row, repeat the first half, starting from center and working back. When work reaches to the top row, reverse the design, by working back from the top row to the 1st row.

Edging: To begin, ch 53, turn. 1st row: D c in 8th ch from hook, ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in each of next 4 ch, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next, repeat from * to end of ch (13 sps). Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in next ch, d c in d c, 2 d c in sp, d c in next d c (2 bls), 6 sps, 1 bl, 5 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: 3 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps. Then ch 5, sl st in 3rd st of turning ch. Ch 8, turn. D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each of next 4 ch, sl st in 3rd st of ch-5, turn. Sl st in each d c just made (thus bringing work to outer edge). Ch 5, turn. 4th row: 6 sps, 2 bls, 1 sp, 2 bls, 4 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps. Ch 5, turn. Hereafter follow chart, starting at the 5th row from bottom of chart, thus making scallops, until edging measures same length as one side of cloth. Then follow chart for corner. Break off thread, and attach to side of corner and continue to make scallops for other side of cloth. Work thus for other two sides. Sew edging to cloth with over and over stitches.
