Repeat from * 6 more times; join to 3rd st of ch-5 (8 sps). 2nd rnd: Ch 2 (to count as half d c), * 3 half d c in next sp, half d c in next d c. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 half d c in last sp; join. 3rd rnd: Ch 2, half d c in each st around, picking up only the back 2 loops of each st; join. 4th rnd: Ch 6 (to count as d c and ch-3), * skip 1 st, d c in back 2 loops of next st, ch 3. Repeat from * around; join to 3rd st of ch-6 (16 sps). 5th rnd: Ch 2, * 3 half d c in next sp, half d c in next d c. Repeat from * around; join. 6th rnd: * Ch 7, skip 3 sts, s c in back 2 loops of next st. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 s c in 1st loop (where first 3 sl sts were made); sl st in next s c. 8th rnd: * In next ch-10 loop make 6 s c, ch 5 and 6 s c; ch 4. Repeat from * around; sl st in 1st s c made. 9th rnd: Ch 2, * half d c in next 2 s c, always picking up only the back loop of each s c; d c in next 3 s c, d c in next 2 ch, 2 d c in next ch, d c in next 2 ch, d c in next 3 s c, half d c in next 3 s c, ch 1, half d c in next s c. Repeat from * around; join to 2nd st of ch-2 first made. 10th rnd: Sl st in next st, * s c in next st, always picking up only the back loop of each st; (ch 3, skip 1 st, s c in next st) 3 times; ch 3, s c in next st; (ch 3, skip 1 st, s c in next st) 3 times; ch 3, s c in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, skip 2 sts. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in 1st s c made. Fasten off. This completes one motif.

SECOND MOTIF … Work 1st 9 rnds as for first motif. 10th rnd: Sl st in next st, * s c in next st, always picking up only the back loop of each st; (ch 3, skip 1 st, s c in next st) 3 times; ch 1, s c in loop at tip of any point on 1st motif; ch 1, s c in next st on motif in work; (ch 3, skip 1 st, s c in next st) 3 times; ch 3, s c in next sp, ch 3, skip 2 sts. Repeat from * once more; complete rnd as for first motif.

Make necessary number of motifs, joining them as 2nd was joined to first.

FILL-IN LACE … Attach thread to 2nd loop from joining; ch 4; make 2 tr in same place, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster). * Ch 4, 2 tr in tip of cluster just completed, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, and complete a cluster as before; make 3 tr in center side loop of next point and complete as for previous cluster. Repeat from * around, joining last cluster to tip of 1st cluster made. Fasten off. Fill in all spaces between joinings in this manner.
