Spin-a-Daisy Motif Pattern

MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 30:
Small Ball:
J. & P. Coats—3 balls of No. 9 Yellow and 2 balls of No. 8 Blue, or
Clark's O.N.T.—4 balls of No. 9 Yellow and 3 balls of No. 8 Blue.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.
A pair of blue pillow cases.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 4 inches in diameter.

MOTIF … Starting at center with Yellow, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 19 dc in ring. Sl st in top of ch-3. 2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 15, sc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in last dc. Join to first sc made (10 loops). 3rd rnd: * In next loop make sc, half dc, 21 dc, half dc and sc, skip next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join to first sc made. Break off.

FIRST FLOWER … Starting at center with Blue, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Sc in ring, ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make 2 tr in ring, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), ch 1, sl st in center dc of any loop on motif, ch 1, sl st in tip of cluster, ch 4, sc in ring, (ch 4, 2-tr cluster in ring, ch 3, sl st in tip of cluster—picot made—ch 4, sc in ring) 3 times, joining last ch-4 to first sc. Break off.

SECOND FLOWER … With Blue, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Sc in ring, ch 4, 2-tr cluster in ring, ch 1, sl st in center dc on next loop of motif, ch 1, sl st in tip of cluster, ch 4, sc in ring, ch 4, 2-tr cluster in ring, ch 1, sl st in picot on last petal made on First Flower, ch 1, sl st in tip of cluster, ch 4, sc in ring. Complete Flower as before (no more joinings). Make 8 more Flowers, join­ing each Flower as Second Flower was joined to First Flower and motif.

EDGING1st rnd: Attach Yellow to picot on any free petal, sc in same place, * ch 10, sc in next joining between Flowers, ch 10, sc in next picot. Repeat from * around. Join. 2nd rnd: 13 sc in each loop around. Join and break off.
   Make 5 more motifs. Sew motifs together, joining 2 points of each motif and leaving 3 points free between join­ings. Rip out hem of pillow case and press out creases. Pin motifs in place on pillow case, attaching end motifs to corners and center motifs 1½ inches from edge to form curve. Sew motifs in place. Cut out material in back of motifs, leaving ¼ inch for hem. Turn hem under and sew neatly in place. Scallop back to correspond with front, leaving ¼ inch for hem. Turn hem under and sew neatly in place. Attach Yellow to back and sc closely across. Break off. Starch motifs lightly and press.
