FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make 2 tr in ring, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made); (ch 5, make a 3-tr cluster in ring) 7 times; ch 5. Join to tip of first cluster. 2nd rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 4, in same sp make 2-tr cluster, ch 5 and 3-tr cluster; * ch 3, 7 dc in next sp, ch 3, in next sp make cluster, ch 5 and cluster. Repeat from * around. Join. 3rd rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 4, in same sp make 2-tr cluster, (ch 5, 3-tr cluster) twice; * ch 3, (dc in next dc, ch 1) 6 times; dc in next dc, ch 3, skip next sp, in next sp make (cluster, ch 5) twice and cluster. Repeat from * around. Join. 4th rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 3, hold­ing back on hook the last loop of each dc make 2 dc in same sp, thread over and complete a cluster (shell made); * ch 7, in next sp make 2-dc cluster, ch 3 and 2-dc cluster (another shell made); (ch 3, sc in next ch-1 sp) 6 times; ch 3, skip next sp, shell in next sp. Repeat from * around. Join. 5th rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3, shell in same sp (shell made over shell), * ch 3, 7 tr in next sp, ch 3, shell over next shell, ch 3, skip next sp, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 5 times; shell over next shell. SECOND MOTIF … Work as for First Motif until 8 rnds have been completed. 9th rnd: Shell over shell, (ch 7, sc in next sp) 4 times; ch 5, sl st in any corner loop on First Motif, ch 5, sc in same loop on Second Motif, (ch 3, sl st in next loop on First Motif, ch 3, sc in next sp on Second Motif) 3 times; ch 3, sl st in next sp on First Motif, ch 3, shell over next shell on Second Motif, ch 3, skip next sp, sc in next loop, ch 3, shell over next shell. Complete rnd, joining next 4 loops and corner loop as before.
   Make desired number of motifs, join­ing adjacent sides as Second Motif was joined to First Motif (where 4 corners meet, join 3rd and 4th corners to joining of previous 2 corners).
