Pattern: The center 46 sts constitute the pattern. Row 1—K 16, P 2, K 6, P 2, K 8, P 2, K 6, P 2, K 8, P 2, K 6, P 2, K 16. Row 2—P 16, K 2, P 6, K 2, P 8, K 2, P 6, K 2, P 8, K 2, P 6, K 2, P 16. Row 3—Repeat Row 1. Row 4—Repeat Row 2. Row 5—Repeat Row 1. Row 6—Repeat Row 2. Row 7—K 16, P 2 (This is the row on which the cable is made.) With a sock needle remove the 1st 3 sts and hold in back of work until the next 3 sts have been knitted. (More)
Armhole: Cast off 4 sts on each side. (The first 4 sts will be cast off on a knit row; the second 4 sts will be cast off on a purl row.) Thumb: It is now time to start the thumb. Knit 18 sts from beginning of knit row and put in marker, (tie piece of colored yarn around the needle), add a st in the 19th st and put in another colored marker. On every knit row continue to add a st on each side of the thumb until you have increased the thumb to 14 sts, moving the colored markers from knit row to knit row as you increase the sts. As shown by dotted line at corner in Figure 1, secure end of yarn and start winding around base of frame at corner. Wind around base wire in counter-clockwise direction, keeping yarn windings close together so wire will not show through.
When base wires are completely covered, tie end of yarn to base wire with thread or fasten with glue. Proceed to wind top of frame in same manner. (More)
