Small, Medium and Large

Directions are given for Small Size. Changes for Medium and Large Sizes are in parentheses.

COATS & CLARK'S O.N.T. "SPEED-CRO-SHEEN" MER­CERIZED COTTON, Art. C.44: 4 balls of No. 61-D Nu-Ecru.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).
1 pair of foam rubber inner soles.
1 package of assorted Walco Tile Craft Beads, Style No. 1205.

GAUGE: 6 sc make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.

SOLE—Bottom … Starting at center with Nu-Ecru, ch loosely 33 (36-39) sts. 1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 15 ch, dc in next 15 (18-21) ch, 7 dc in last ch (toe end); working along opposite side of starting chain make dc in next 15 (18-21) ch, sc in each remaining ch. Join with sl st. 2nd to 8th rnds incl: Sc in each st around, increasing 3 sc evenly around heel and 5 sc evenly around toe end—to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc. At end of 8th rnd, sl st in each sc around. Join and break off. Make another piece the same way.

HEEL … Ch 16. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, make sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 8th rows incl: Sc in each st around, increasing 3 sc evenly at rounded end. 9th row: Sl st in each sc around. Break off. Make another piece the same way. Sew edges of Heels together and sew to Bottom Sole. Sew Top Sole to Bottom Sole. Sew foam rubber sole in place.

INSTEP … Starting at toe end, ch 20. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 2 sc in next sc, sc in each sc across, making 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 3½ inches. Sc closely around, making 3 sc in each corner. Break off.
   Sew sides of instep to sole. Trim with beads. Make another slipper the same way.
