MATERIALS REQUIRED
American Thread Company "Star" or "Gem" Mercerized Crochet Cotton Size 10
25—250 yard balls are required for cover illustrated.
Steel Crochet Hook #8 or 9.

Each Motif measures about 6½ inches—35 motifs (5 x 7) are needed for cover. If a larger cover is desired add more motifs for length and width.

FILET MOTIF. Ch 107, work 1st d c in 8th st from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 sts, d c in next st, repeat from * across row (34 open meshes), ch 5, turn.

2nd Row. D c in d c, * ch 2, d c in next d c, repeat from * across row and continue work following diagram working 4 d c for each solid mesh and 3 d c for each additional solid mesh.

Work 2 of your favorite 14 designs and 1 each of the remaining 6. For the center motif work out the name and date following alphabet and numerical charts.

Around each motif work the following edge: Join thread in 1st mesh from corner and work 2 s c in each mesh to corner, 5 s c in corner mesh, continue all around, join.

2nd Row. * Ch 5, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c repeat from * 15 times, ch 5, s c in center s c of corner, ch 5, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c and repeat from beginning all around.

3rd Row. Sl st to center of loop, ch 3, d c over loop, * ch 5, sl st in 4th st for picot, ch 1, 2 d c over next loop, repeat from * 15 times, picot loop, 2 d c over same loop, picot loop, 2 d c over next loop, picot loop, 2 d c over same loop, picot loop, 2 d c over next loop and continue all around.

4th Row. Ch 3, d c in d c, * ch 3, 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, repeat from * 15 times, ch 3, 1 tr c in each of the next 2 d c, ch 5, 1 tr c in each of the next 2 d c, ch 3 and continue all around.

5th Row. 3 s c over each loop and 1 s c in each d c to corner, in corner work 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c, continue all around.

Sew motifs together arranging them as illustrated or desired and finish with filet edge.

Join thread in corner of cover, ch 5, * skip 2 s c, d c in next s c, ch 2, repeat from * to corner, in corner, ch 2, d c in same space, repeat meshes all around (there should be 35 meshes across each square, 1 mesh over each joining and 1 mesh in each corner).

2nd Row. Ch 5, d c in d c, 2 d c in space, d c in d c, * 3 open meshes, 1 solid mesh, repeat from * to corner d c, ch 2, d c in corner mesh, ch 2, d c in same space, ch 2, d c in next d c, continue all around working all corners in same manner.

3rd Row. Work open meshes all around.

4th Row. 3 open meshes, 1 solid mesh, repeat all around and work 1 row of open meshes.

5th Row. Work same as 4th row placing the solid mesh over solid mesh in 2nd row. Continue border for 9 more rows or width desired and finish with the following shell in each mesh, 1 s c in mesh, ch 2, 2 d c in same mesh.
