MATERIALS REQUIRED

American Thread Company "Star" or "Gem" Mercerized Crochet Cotton Size 20 or 30, White, Ecru, Dark Cream, Dark Linen or Colors
Steel Crochet Hook #10 or 11.
8—300 yard balls will make Luncheon Cloth 9 x 9 motifs.

Each motif measures about 5 inches.

Ch 15, join to form a ring, ch 1, work 23 s c in ring, join.

2nd Row. * Ch 5, sl st in 4th st for picot, repeat from * twice, ch 13, sl st in 2nd ch to form ring, without turning work ch 1, work 2 s c, 15 d c, 2 s c into ring, * ch 5, sl st in 4th st for picot, sl st in straight side of opposite picot, repeat from * twice, ch 1, 2 s c in 2 s c of ring, * ch 5, sl st in 4th st for picot, repeat from * twice, ch 13, sl st in 2nd ch to form ring, without turning work ch 1, work into ring 2 s c, 3 d c, join to 12th d c of first ring with a sl st, 12 d c, 2 s c in ring, * ch 5 sl st in 4th st for picot, sl st in straight side of opposite picot, repeat from * twice, 2 s c in 2 s c of ring and repeat 2nd ring 10 times, joining last ring at 3rd and 12th d c to form circle, break thread.

3rd Row. Join thread between rings, * 1 s c in each of the first 2 free d c of ring, 1 s d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, 1 s d c in next st, 2 s c in last 2 free d c of ring, repeat from * all around.

4th Row. Sl st to first d c of next ring, ch 8, skip 3 d c, s c in next st, * ch 8, s c in first d c of next ring, ch 8, skip 3 d c, s c in next d c, repeat from * all around, ch 8 and join row.

5th Row. Sl st to center of loop, * ch 8, s c in next loop, repeat from * all around.

6th Row. Sl st to center of loop, ch 8, s c in next loop, ch 8, s c in next loop, ch 1, turn and work 9 s c over loop just made, ch 2, turn, 1 d c in each of the 7 center s c, ch 2, sl st in last s c, repeat from * all around.

7th Row. Ch 7, s c in loop, ch 7, s c in first d c of next petal, ch 7, s c in center of d c of petal, ch 7, s c in last d c of petal, repeat from beginning all around. Only one motif is completed.

Second Motif, work first six rows.

7th Row. Ch 7, s c in loop, ch 7, s c in first d c of petal, ch 3, sl st in corresponding loop of first motif ch 3, s c in center d c of 2nd motif, ch 3, sl st in next loop of first motif, ch 3, s c in last d c of second motif and finish row same as in first motif.

Third Motif is joined in the same manner, leaving one free petal of 1st motif between joinings.

Fourth Motif is joined to 3rd and 1st motif leaving one free petal between joinings which forms an open square for which the following small motif is made.

1st Row. Ch 15, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 23 s c in ring.

2nd Row. * Ch 5, sl st in 4th st from needle for picot, repeat from * 3 times ch 1, join to first loop of petal, * ch 5, sl st in 4th st from needle for picot, sl st in straight side of opposite picot, repeat from * 3 times, ch 1, 2 s c in ring, repeat from beginning once joining to next loop of petal, repeat between first 2 stars 4 times, ch 4, sl st in stitch that joins the two motifs, ch 8, sl st in 4th st from needle for picot, sl st in straight side of picot, repeat between 2nd group of stars 3 times. Ch 1, 2 s c in ring and repeat from beginning 3 times.
