Saddle Shoulder Slipon Pattern #13

Size 34-36

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 4 balls; or J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 12 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook Nos. 1 and 4.

Gauge: 6 rows make 1 inch; 9 s c make 2 inches.

Back. Use No. 1 hook and start at underarm seam. Ch 74, turn. 1st row: Skip 3 sts, 1 s c in 4th st from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 s c in next; repeat from * across (37 s c), ch 3, turn. 2nd row: * Skip next ch, 1 s c into next s c, taking the front loop only, ch 1, and repeat from * across to last s c, ch 1, s c in turning ch, ch 3, turn. 3rd row: * Skip next ch, 1 s c into next s c, taking the back loop only, ch 1, repeat from * across to last s c, ch 1, s c in turning ch, ch 3, turn. These 2 rows constitute the pattern. 4th to 7th rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows twice. 8th row: Ch 2 (for 2 increases), skip 3 ch, 1 s c in next, ch 1, skip next ch, 1 s c in 1st s c of previous row, pattern across, ch 3, turn. 9th and 10th rows: Repeat 3rd and 8th rows once. 11th row: Work in pattern, adding 29 ch at end of row, turn. 12th row: Skip 3 sts, 1 s c in next, pattern across, ch 3, turn. 13th row: Work even. 14th row: Work 1 s c in 1st s c (an increase), pattern across. 15th to 32nd rows incl: Repeat these last 2 rows for 9 times. 33rd to 35th rows incl: Work even. 36th row: Like 14th row. 37th to 59th rows incl: Work even. 60th row: Omit the turning ch-3 at shoulder in order to make a decrease, then pattern across. 61st and 62nd rows: Work even. Continue to work in pattern, decreasing at shoulder as described, for 10 times. Work 3 rows even. Next row: Work in pattern over 41 s c, turn, sl st 4 sts, pattern to end, ch 3, turn. Work over 37 s c, then work 14 rows even. Repeat from 8th to 36th rows incl. This will bring you to the neck edge in the front.

Right Front. Work 20 rows, making 1 decrease at neck edge by omitting the turning ch-3 (10 decreases at neck edge). On the 21st row, begin the first buttonhole as follows: Work to within 4 s c from neck edge, ch 5, skip 5 sts, s c in next, ch 1, skip 1 ch, s c in last s c, turn, for usual decrease. On the row back, work in pattern over the ch-5, and pattern across. Continue to decrease at neck edge, making 4 more buttonholes with 7 rows between each. Work 2 rows after the last buttonhole, and break thread (ending at neck edge).

Left Front. Ch 6, turn, 1 s c in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, s c in next, ch 3, turn. Work 25 more rows in pattern, increasing 1 s c at beginning of every row. 27th row: Increase at beginning pattern across, omit the turning ch-3 for a decrease. 28th row: Work even. 29th row: Increase at the beginning, pattern across, ch 3, turn. 30th row: Work even. 31st row: Increase at beginning, decrease at end. 32nd to 47th rows incl: Repeat rows 30 and 31 for 8 times. 48th row: Work in pattern over 19 s c, lap the right front over left front, and continue working in pattern through both fronts, and down the rest of right front. Work 3 more rows, decreasing at shoulder as usual, work even at bottom. Then break off. Join thread at 15th s c from shoulder, ch 3, pattern across, ch 3, turn. Next row: Work over 39 s c, turn and sl st over 4 sts. Work 7 more rows even. Break off.

Sleeve. Ch 30, work in pattern for 6 rows. At 7th row begin to increase 1 s c at beginning of alternate rows, until there are 27 s c across. Ch 39 on the increase side to fit up on shoulder, and work in pattern for 16 rows. Next row: From even side, work over 27 s c, omit turning ch for a decrease, turn. Work in pattern, decreasing to correspond with the increase side, until there are 14 s c. Work 6 rows even. Break off. Make another sleeve to correspond.

Waist Band. With No. 4 hook, ch 30 and work in rib st for 93 ribs, join. Sew to body of blouse.

Cuffs. With No. 4 hook, ch 11, and work in rib st for 34 ribs. Join. Sew to sleeve.

   Finish neck of blouse by working 1 row of s c all around. Then with 2 strands of cotton, working from wrong side, make 1 row of sl st.
