The following instructions were found in Spool Cotton #111, Tatting Book.

 

No. 8137: Center r, 8 p's sep. by 3 ds, cl. Break off. R of 5 ds, p, 4 ds, p, 2 ds, p, 4 ds, p, 5 ds, cl. Sp (⅛-inch), join to a p of center r, * sp (⅛-inch), r of 5 ds, join to p of adjacent r, 4 ds, p, 2 ds, p, 4 ds, p, 5 ds, cl. Sp (⅛-inch), join to next p of center r. Repeat from * around (8 rings in all). Join and break off. Make another wheel same as this, but join one r at the 2 p's to 1st wheel and complete round. Break off. Continue in this manner for length desired.

 

No. 8125: Use a shuttle and Milward's steel crochet hook.

R of 5 ds, p, 4 ds, p, 4 ds, p, 5 ds, cl. Rw. Sp (¼-inch), r of 5 ds, p, 3 ds, 3 p's sep. by 1 ds, 3 ds, p, 5 ds, cl. * Rw. Sp (¼-inch), r of 5 ds, join to p of adjacent r, 4 ds, p, 4 ds, p, 5 ds, cl. Rw. Sp (¼-inch), r of 5 ds, join to p of adjacent r, 3 ds, 3 p's sep. by 1 ds, 3 ds, p, 5 ds, cl. Repeat from * for length desired. Attach thread to center p of 1st r made, ** ch 5, s c in free p of next r. Repeat from ** across. Break off.

 

No. 8143: Use one shuttle and a ball of thread.

With shuttle thread make r of 4 ds, p, 3 more p's sep. by 3 ds, 4 ds, cl. * Rw, attach ball thread, 7 ds, p, 5 ds, p, 7 ds, rw. With shuttle thread r of 4 ds, p, 3 ds, join to 2nd p of 1st r, 3 ds, p, 3 ds, p, 4 ds, cl. R of 4 ds, p, 3 more p's sep. by 3 ds, 4 ds, cl. Repeat from * for length desired (this completes first half of insertion). Work other half to correspond, but join the p's on ch to the p's on ch of previous half while working.
