Measures 11 ½ x 6 ½ inches.

Materials:

J. & P. Coats or Clark’s O.N.T. Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 50.
Small Ball:
J. & P. Coats---1 ball,
Or
Clark’s O.N.T.---2 balls.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 12.
Bread tray daily measures about 11 ½ x 6 ½ inches.

Gauge: 7 sps make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at short side, ch 56 (to measure about 2 ¾ inches).

1st row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * across (17 sps). Ch 5, turn.

2nd row: Dc in 1st dc, * ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * across, ending row with dc in 3rd st of turning ch-5.

3rd row: 4 sps, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc (1 bl made), 7 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps. Hereafter follow chart to top row, then work 2 more rows of sps. Hereafter work as follows: Sl st across 1st sp, ch 3, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc, 13 sps, 1 bl, turn (thus 2 sps are decreased). Hereafter continue decreasing 1 sp at both ends of each row until 3 sps remain. Then sl st across t within last dc of 1st bl, ch 3, * 2 dc in sp, dc in next sp. Repeat from * 2 more times. Break off. Attach thread at center of end sp and work t correspond with opposite end. Attach thread to dc of bl of 1st decrease row and make 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in corner sp, ** dc in next dc, 2 dc in sp. Repeat from ** across to 1st decrease row at opposite end and make 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in corner sp, sl st to next dc. Break off. Work other side t correspond, but do not break off.

Now work as follows:

1st rnd: Ch 5, * sc at tip of ch-3 or dc ( as the case may be) of 1st bl on next row, ch 5. Repeat from * 5 more times, ch 5, sc in center dc of 3 bls, ch 5, sc in last dc of same 3 bls. Then make 6 ch-5 loops as before along next side, ch 5, sc in ch-2 loop, ** ch 5, skip 4 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from ** across t within next ch-2 loop; then work other half of rnd to correspond with first half. Join with sl st.

2nd rnd: Sl st in each of next 2 ch, ch 5, dc in same loop, * ch 2, 5 sc in next loop, ch 2; in next loop make dc, ch 2, dc. Repeat from * around, ending rnd with 5 sc in last loop, ch 2. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-5 first made.

3rd rnd: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 5, dc in same sp, ch 3, * skip 1 sc, sc in each of next 4 sc, ch 3; in next ch-2 sp make dc, ch 2, dc; ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-3 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-5 first made.

4th, 5th and 6th rnds: Work as for 3rd rnd, making 1 sc less in each sc-group, and 1 ch more in each ch-loop in each rnd, but always making ch-2 between 2 dc in each rnd. Join.

7th rnd: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 5, dc in same sp, * ch 7, sc in sc, ch 7, in next ch-2 sp make dc, ch 2, dc. Repeat from * around.

8th rnd: Same as 7th rnd, but make ch-8 instead of ch-7.

9th rnd: Sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same place, ch 2, 3 dc in same place, ch 8, * sc in next sc, ch 8; in next ch-2 sp make 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc; ch 8. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Starch lightly and press.
