Simple crocheted squares with pretty pink roses sewn in the center. An attractive afghan for a country-style bedroom.

Crochet Hook Size G.

Afghan measures 42 x 60 inches ... Motifs measure 4½ inches square

MOTIF (Make 59 Cardinal and 58 Shaded Roses) ... Starting at center, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, dc in ring, (ch 2, 2 dc in ring) 7 times; ch 2. Join with sl st to top of ch-3 (16 dc counting start­ing chain as 1 dc). 2nd rnd: Sl st in next dc and next sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, 4 dc in next sp, * ch 3—corner sp, (4 dc in next sp) twice. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3. Join to top of starting chain (32 dc). 3rd rnd: Ch 3, * dc in next dc and in each dc to next corner sp, make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc in corner sp. Repeat from * around. Join as before (48 dc). 4th rnd: Repeat 3rd rnd (64 dc). Break off and fasten.

ROSE (Make 59) ... Starting at cen­ter with Roses, ch 3. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: (Sc in ring, ch 1) 6 times. Join with sl st to first sc. 2nd rnd: (In next ch-1 sp make sc, h dc, dc, h dc and sc) 6 times. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 1, (holding petals for­ward, sc around sc on first rnd, ch 2) 6 times. Join. 4th rnd: In each ch-2 sp around make sc, h dc, 3 dc, h dc and sc. Join. Break off and fasten. Sew a Rose to center of each Car­dinal Motif.
Sew motifs neatly together, alter­nating colors. Starting with a Car­dinal Motif on first row, make 9 rows of 13 motifs.

BORDER ... 1st rnd (right side): At­tach Cardinal to any dc, ch 3 and dc closely around, making 7 dc in each of the four corner sps. Join. Turn. 2nd rnd (wrong side): Sl st in each dc around. Join. Break off and fasten. Block to measurements.
