Worked in strips of afghan stitch, the shaded yarn gives an interesting effect of Indian hand-weaving. It could also be worked in different colored strips, if you so desired.

Afghan measures 50 x 75 inches ... Each strip measures 7 x 75 inches
GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch; 3 rows = 1¼ inches.
NOTE: When changing colors, or when carrying unused yarn from one row to another, always twist the unused yarn around the other being careful not to pull yarn too tightly.
STRIP (Make 7) ... With Lilac ch 36 to measure 9 inches. 1st row: Making loops ½ inch high and retaining all loops on hook, draw up a loop in 2nd ch from hook, draw up a loop in next 15 ch, skip next ch, draw up a loop in next ch, skip next ch, draw up a loop in next 15 ch, draw up a loop in front loop of last ch, draw up a loop in back loop of same ch—an inc made (35 loops on hook). Drop Lilac, attach Purples in same ch where last loop was drawn up. Complete second half of row as follows: Yarn over and draw through 1 loop, * yarn over and draw through 2 loops. Repeat from * across. 2nd row: Ch 1, making loops ½ inch high and retaining all loops on hook, draw up a loop in first vertical bar formed by loop of previous row and in each of next 15 bars; insert hook under next 3 bars and draw one loop through, draw up a loop in each of the next 15 bars, draw up a loop in the last bar, draw up a loop in the stitch behind same bar (35 loops on hook). Drop Purples, pick up Lilac and complete second half of row as before.
3rd row: Work same as 2nd row until there are 35 loops on hook. Drop Lilac, pick up Purples and complete second half of row as before. Next 5 rows: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately twice; then repeat 2nd row once more. 9th row: With Lilac, draw up 35 loops as before. Drop Lilac, attach Amethyst and complete second half of row as before. 10th row: With Amethyst, draw up loops and complete second half of row as before. 11th row: With Amethyst draw up 35 loops as before. Break off Amethyst, pick up Purples and complete second half of row as before. Repeat last 10 rows (2nd to 11th rows incl) until strip measures about 75 inches ending with a wide stripe. Work sc in 16 vertical bars, insert hook under next 3 bars and complete an sc, sc in remaining 16 bars. Break off and fasten. Sew strips together matching stripes with right side facing and Lilac, work sc evenly along side edges. Block to measurements.
TASSEL (Make 30) ... Cut a cardboard 4 inches square. Wind Amethyst 24 times around cardboard. Break off. Draw a double strand under strands at one end and tie securely. Cut strands at opposite end. Wind a strand twice around tassel 1 inch below tied end and tie securely. Trim evenly. Fasten a tassel to each point and between points.
