Jacket and Cap Pattern

6 MONTHS TO 1 YEAR

MATERIALS REQUIRED
American Thread Company Sillateen Sansil
10 Balls #11 Lt. Pink and 2 Balls #1 Cream.
Steel Crochet Hook #9 or 10.

JACKET

With Pink Ch 130 (about 11 inches) and work 129 s c on chain.
2nd Row. Ch 3, turn, 1 d c in 2nd s c, * ch 1, skip 1 s c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat open meshes across row ending row with d c in last s c (63 meshes), ch 3, turn.
3rd Row. Work 12 one ch meshes for front, 2 d c, ch 2, 2 d c in next mesh, d c in d c, 5 meshes for shoulder, shell in next mesh, d c in next d c, 25 meshes for back and continue shoulder and front, ch 3, turn.
4th Row. Work meshes across front, 1 mesh over first half of shell, shell in center of shell, 1 mesh over last half of shell, work meshes to next shell, 1 mesh over first half of shell, shell in center of shell, 1 mesh over last half of shell and continue to end of row. This increases 1 mesh at each front and 2 at each shoulder and back. Work 10 more rows same as the 4th row.
1st Row of Pattern. Ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 d c, s c in next d c, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 d c, s c in next d c, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, s c in next d c, repeat across front (15 shells) shell of 2 d c, ch 2, 2 d c in center of shell, 17 shells across shoulder, shell of 2 d c, ch 2, 2 d c, in center of shell, 30 shells across back, work other shoulder and front to correspond.
2nd Row. Ch 4, 3 d c over ch 3 of shell, * 3 d c over ch 3 of next shell, repeat from * across row working a shell of 2 d c, ch 2, 2 d c in each shell of shoulders.
3rd Row. Ch 3, 2 d c in same space * s c in center d c of next pattern, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, repeat from * to end of row working shells of 2 d c, ch 2, 2 d c at shoulders.
4th Row. Same as 2nd row of pattern.
5th Row. Work shells same as 3rd row to shoulder, shell in center of shell, * ch 3, 2 d c in top of last shell made, repeat from * 5 times (this forms the armhole), 3 d c in center of next shoulder shell, work shells across back and work other side.
6th, 8th, 10th Rows. Work in d c same as 2nd row.
7th, 9th, 11th Rows. Work in shells.
12th Row. Work in d c increasing 5 times in row by working a group of d c between 13th and 14th shell, then increase after every 14th shell 3 times. (88 patterns.) The remainder of the jacket is worked even following pattern of 2nd and 3rd rows.
Work 5 rows in Lt. Pink, 1 row Cream, 2 rows Lt. Pink, 3 rows Cream, 2 rows Lt. Pink, 1 row Cream, 2 rows Lt. Pink, break thread.
SLEEVE. Join Lt. Pink at underarm and work 29 shells, join each row and turn each row. Work 12 more rows of pattern in Pink, 1 row Cream, 2 rows Pink, 1 row Cream, 3 rows Pink.
21st Row. With Pink work 1 shell in every other pattern and work 2 rows even. Work other sleeve to correspond.
COLLAR. With wrong side of work toward you join Lt. Pink in 1st s c at neck, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 2 s c, shell in next s c, * ch 3, skip 3 s c, shell in next s c, repeat from * around neck (32 shells).
2nd Row. With Cream, ch 4, * 3 d c over ch of shell, repeat from * 6 times, in next shell work 3 d c, ch 2, 3 d c, work 7 patterns even, increase in next pattern, 7 patterns even, increase in next pattern and work remaining patterns even.
3rd Row. With Lt. Pink, work in shell pattern, working 1 shell in ch 2 at increasing points.
4th Row. With Cream work even in d c pattern same as 2nd row. Break thread, and with Lt. Pink work a row of shells all around jacket. Finish with ribbon or a crocheted cord as illustrated.

CAP

With Lt. Pink crochet a ch 13 inches long, work 1 row of one ch meshes then work in pattern same as jacket until band measures 5½ inches ending with a d c row. Join Cream and work 1 row. Next row work in Pink increasing once in center of cap same as in collar, then work 1 row in Cream and 1 row Lt. Pink increasing at center. To make up Cap fold through the center and beginning at lower edge, sew together for 1 inch (about 7 meshes). Through the remaining meshes lace a ribbon and tie, leaving back of cap open. With Cream work a row of shells all around cap, fold back the front of cap and finish with ribbon as illustrated.
