Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 3 balls color 106 Sport Green and 1 ball Ecru, Size 30. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.

Ch 13, skip 1 st, 1 s c in each of next 12 ch, ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c over s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat this last row, working 12 s c for 10 more rows. This will make 1 inch square. * Ch 12, turn, skip 1 st, 1 s c in each of next 11 sts, 1 s c in 1st s c of square already made, ch 1, turn. Work 11 more rows of s c over s c. Repeat from * until there are 24 squares. 1st rnd: Ch 13, 1 s c in 6th row on side of last square, ch 4, join (to join drop st from hook, insert hook in 5th st from last s c, catch dropped st, and draw through). This will form a single loop. Ch 8, 1 s c at next corner of square, * ch 13, 1 s c into 6th s c of next side of square, ch 4, join to 5th st from last s c, ch 8, 1 s c in center where the 2 squares meet, ch 8, join to first joining, ch 4, s c in 6th row of next square, ch 4, join in first joining, ch 8, 1 s c in cor­ner of square. Repeat from * to last square, making 23 groups in all of 3 loops between squares. Ch 13, 1 s c in 6th s c of next side of square, ch 4, join as in first single loop, ch 8, 1 s c in next corner of square. Ch 3, skip 2 rows of next side of square, 1 d c in next row, * ch 2, skip 2 rows, d c in next to form sp, make 2 more sps having last d c at corner of square, ch 2, d c in same place, ch 2, d c in same place, ch 2, skip 2 s c on next side of square, d c in next, 2 more sps, 1 d c into 3rd row of next square. Repeat from * to last square, ending with 3 sps on last side of square, ch 3, 1 s c into corner of square, ch 8, and join to joining of first single loop. 1st top row: 1 s c in each ch, s c across row to the single loop at other end. Break thread. 2nd top row: Join thread at 1st s c of last row, ch 4, skip 1 s c, d c in next, * ch 1, skip 1 s c, d c in next. Repeat from * to last s c of row below. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, 3 d c under last d c made, 1 d c in the joining of single loop, 8 d c under the ch-8, 4 d c under ch-4 of first square, d c over d c, * 2 d c into next sp, d c over d c, repeat from * over next 6 sps, including the 2 at corner, then 2 d c in next sp, skip the 2 d c and sp that join the 2 squares, and repeat from * to last corner of last square, then 4 d c in last sp, 1 d c into corner, 8 d c under ch-8, 1 d c into joining of single loop, 3 d c under the ch-4 beginning 2nd top row. 4 d c under last d c made, * skip 1 sp, d c in next, 4 d c under last d c made, repeat from * to within last sp at end of row, and join to the ch-3 beginning the 2nd rnd. Break thread. With the Ecru, ch 150, join to collar by 1 s c in 2nd d c of first group of 4 d c, * ch 4, 1 s c in 2nd d c of next group of 4 d c; repeat from * across to last group of 4 d c, ch 166, turn. Skip 16 ch from hook, 1 s c in each of next 2 ch, * ch 16, 1 s c in each of next 2 ch of foundation ch; repeat from * across to other end, ch 8, turn. Work 2 s c in each loop across. Break thread. 3rd rnd: Join green thread to the same place where the ecru thread was joined to collar and work 1 s c in each st around the tie until opposite place of joining. Finish neck edge with ch 3, * skip 3 s c, 1 d c in next, 4 d c under last d c made, and repeat from * across to beginning of the other tie. Finish tie by working 1 s c in each st around to the body of collar. Ch 5, skip 3 d c, 1 s c in next (this forms a loop), make 3 more loops, * 2 more loops, ch 5, skip 3 d c, d c over corner d c, ch 5, d c in same place, ch 5, skip 3 d c, s c in next, 2 more loops with s c of last loop into corner sp. Re­peat from * across, finishing the other end with 7 loops as made on first end, and placing last s c in 2nd d c of first group of 4 d c, 1 s c in each of 2 s c on tie, ch 5, turn. S c in the next loop, ch 5, s c in next, make 6 more loops (which brings you to the corner loop), ch 5, s c in same corner loop, * 3 loops on the other side of corner, s c in next loop, 3 loops, ch 5, s c in same loop; repeat from * to last corner loop, then work 8 loops down the side. Make 1 s c in each of 2 s c on tie, ch 5, turn, and repeat this row to other tie.
