Priscilla Doll Pattern

Heroine of one of the most famous courtships in history. Loved by Miles Standish who sent John Alden to woo her for him. John wooed her so well that she married him instead.

MATERIALS—D•M•C Pearl Cotton, Art. 116D, Size 8: 2 balls Grey No. 415 or No. 318 (A), 1 ball White (B).
7½-inch Doll.
4-inch ribbon; ½ yard for Petticoat.
Steel Crochet Hook, Size 7.

GAUGE: 3 tr rows = 1 inch

* = STAR

SKIRT—With A ch 37, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 35 chs. Rnd 1—Ch 5, turn, tr in first sc, ch 1, tr in next sc, * [ch 1, 1 tr, ch 1, 1 tr] in next sc, ch 1, tr in next sc; rpt from STAR around, ch 1, join (with slip st in 4th ch of ch-5). Rnd 2—Ch 5, turn, tr in next sp, ch 1, * tr in next tr, ch 1, tr in next sp, ch 1; rpt from STAR around, join (108 sps). Rnd 3—Turn, slip st in next sp, ch 5, [1 tr, ch 1] in each remaining sp, join. Rpt rnd 3 twelve times. Fasten off.

BODICE—Working on other side of foundation ch of Skirt and spacing sts evenly, with A work 35 sc. Row 2—Ch 4, turn, dc in 2nd sc, [ch 1, 1 dc] in each remaining sc (34 sps). Rows 3, 4, 5—Ch 4, turn, dc in 2nd sp, [ch 1, 1 dc] in each remaining sp. Shoulder Strap—Ch 1, turn, slip st in each st to and including 5th dc, ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc (2 sps). Row 2—Ch 4, turn, dc in 2nd dc, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch of ch-4. Rpt row 2 four times. Fasten off; skip next 4 sps (for underarm), sew end of Strap to next 2 sps at front Bodice; work other Shoulder Strap to correspond.

SLEEVES—With A work [1 dc, ch 1] in each of 4 sps at underarm, [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1] in each of 6 sps of Shoulder Strap, join in first dc (16 sps). Rnds 2 to 4—Slip st in next sp, ch 4, [1 dc, ch 1] in each remaining sp, join in 3rd ch of ch-4. Rnd 5—Slip st in next sp, ch 3, dc in each remaining sp, join (in ch-3). Rnd 6—Ch 3, skip joined st, dc in each dc around, join. Rpt rnd 6 three times. Fasten off. With A work a row of sc along neck edge (about 1 sc in each sp), fasten off. Cuffs—With B ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of 14 chs. Row 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across (15 sc). Row 3—Ch 5, turn, long tr in first sc, 2 long tr in each of 2 sc, tr in each of 9 sc, 2 long tr in each of 3 sc, fasten off; sew Cuffs in place as shown. Run a matching drawstring thru waistline and neck edge. Steam lightly. Put dress on Doll, sew back seam. Tighten drawstrings and tie knot.

PETTICOAT—Sew ends of 4-inch ribbon together, run a shirring drawstring ¼-inch from one edge, put on Doll and tighten drawstring to fit waist, tie a knot.

COLLAR—With B ch 25, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch, 2 dc in each of 6 chs, dc in each of 5 chs, 2 dc in each of 6 chs, dc in each of 3 chs. Row 2—Ch 3 (= 1 dc), turn, dc in first dc, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; rpt from STAR across (53 dc). Row 3—Ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in each of 2 dc; rpt from STAR across (70 dc). Row 4—Ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd dc, dc in each remaining dc, fasten off; tack Collar in place as shown. With A chain for 3 inches, fasten off; tie a bow-knot, tack in place.

BONNET—With B ch 4, join into ring, ch 4, work [1 dc, ch 1] in ring 12 times, join (in 3rd ch of ch-4). Rnd 2—Ch 4, dc in next sp, ch 1, * dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next sp, ch 1; rpt from STAR around, join. Rnds 3, 4—Slip st in next sp, ch 4, [1 dc, ch 1] in each remaining sp, join (26 sps). Row 1—Slip st in next sp, ch 4, dc in next sp, [ch 1, 1 dc] in each of next 20 sps (21 sps). Rows 2, 3, 4—Ch 4, turn, dc in first sp, * ch 1, dc in next sp; rpt from STAR to last sp, [ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc] in last sp. Row 5—Ch 1, turn, sc in each st and in each sp across. Row 6 (right side)—Ch 1, turn, sc in back loop of each sc across (leaving front loops free). Row 7—Ch 4, turn, work 1 tr in each free loop of row 5. Row 8—Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, fasten off.
