MATERIALS—D•M•C Pearl Cotton, Art. 116D, Size 8: 4 balls Rose Ombre No. 99 or No. 107.
7½-inch Doll.
4-inch ribbon; ½ yard for Petticoat.
Suitable lace for Mantilla.
Spangles and beads.
Steel Crochet Hooks, Size 7 and Size 0.

GAUGE: 3 tr rows = 1 inch

SKIRT—Using size 7 hook ch 40, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 38 chs. Row 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, * ch 2, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc; rpt from STAR across (19 ch-2 Loops). Rnd 1—Ch 5, turn, tr in first sc, ch 1, * skip next ch-2 Loop, work [1 tr, ch 1, 1 tr, ch 1] in next sc; rpt from STAR across, join (with slip st) in 4th ch of ch-5 (leaving ch-2 Loops free for later use). Rnd 2—Ch 1, turn, slip st in next sp, ch 5, [1 tr, ch 1] in each remaining sp, join in 4th ch of ch-5 (40 sps). Rnd 3—Ch 6, turn, † skip next sp, tr in next tr, ch 2, * tr in next sp, ch 2, tr in next tr, ch 2; rpt from STAR twice; rpt from DAGGER around, join (in 4th ch of ch-6; 70 sps). Rnds 4 to 12 inclusive—Ch 6, turn, skip joined st, [1 tr, ch 2] in each remaining tr, join. Do not fasten off.

RUFFLERnd 1 (right side)—Using size 0 hook, ch 1, sc in next sp, * ch 5 (loosely), sc in next sp; rpt from STAR around, ch 5, join (in first sc). Rnd 2—Slip st to center of next Loop, sc in same Loop, ch 5, [1 sc, ch 5] in each remaining Loop, join. Rnd 3—Slip st to center of next Loop, [1 sc, ch 5, 1 sc] in same Loop, ch 5, * [1 sc, ch 5, 1 sc] in next Loop, ch 5; rpt from STAR around, join. Rpt rnd 2 twice. Fasten off. Fold Skirt on top of rnd 9 and work a Ruffle as on rnd 12. Work a Ruffle in same way on rnds 6 and 3. Work a Ruffle in free ch-2 Loops at waistline.

BODICE—Using size 7 hook and spacing sts evenly work 37 sc on other side of foundation ch of Skirt. Row 2—Ch 4, turn, dc in 2nd sc, [ch 1, 1 dc] in each remaining sc (36 sps). Rows 3, 4, 5—Ch 4, turn, dc in 2nd sp, [ch 1, 1 dc] in each remaining sp. Shoulder Strap—Ch 1, turn, slip st in each st to and including 5th dc, ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc (2 sps). Rows 2 to 6 inclusive—Ch 4, turn, dc in 2nd dc, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch of ch-4. Fasten off; skip next 5 sps (for underarm), sew end of Shoulder Strap to next 2 sps at front Bodice; work other Shoulder Strap to correspond. Sleeves—Work [1 dc, ch 1] in each of 5 sps at underarm, [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1] in each of 6 sps of Shoulder Strap, join in first dc (23 sps). Rnd 2—Slip st in next sp, ch 4, [1 dc, ch 1] in each remaining sp, join in 3rd ch of ch-4. Rnd 3—Slip st in next sp, ch 3, dc in every 2nd sp around, join in top of ch-3. Rnd 4—Ch 1, sc in each dc around, join in first sc, fasten off. Work a row of sc around neck edge (about 1 sc in each sp), fasten off. Run a matching drawstring thru waistline and neck edge. Steam lightly. Put dress on Doll, sew back seam. Tighten drawstrings, tie knot.

PETTICOAT—Sew ends of 4-inch ribbon together, run a shirring drawstring ¼-inch from one edge, put on Doll and tighten drawstring to fit waist, tie knot. Cut lace fan, decorate with spangles and cement in right hand as shown. Make necklace and crucifix of beads. Decorate Mantilla with spangles and arrange as shown.
