CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS PEARL COTTON, size 3, 4 balls of color A, and 2 balls of color B.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
This amount of materials is sufficient to cover a footstool 12 inches in diameter.
Starting at center with color B, ch 2. 1st rnd: 12 s c in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to 1st s c made. 2nd rnd: Ch 3 (to count as 1 d c), d c in same place as sl st, * 2 d c in next st. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd st of 1st ch-3 (24 sts). 3rd rnd: Ch 3, * in next d c make a pc st—to make a pc st, ch 1, make 5 d c, drop loop from hook, insert hook in ch-1 and draw dropped loop through; thread over, insert hook in next d c, thread over and draw through 2 loops. Drop color B, attach color A and draw through the 2 loops on hook; working over color B to conceal it, make 3 color A d c in next d c (2 d c increased), completing 3rd d c with color B. With color B, make d c in next d c, concealing unused color as before. Repeat from * around. Join. 4th rnd: With B, ch 3, * working over A, make pc st in tip of next pc st, d c in next d c, pc st in next d c, d c in next d c, changing to A in last 2 loops; with A make 3 d c in next d c, completing 3rd d c with B; with B, working over A, make d c in next d c. Repeat from * around. Join. 5th rnd: With B, ch 3, * (pc st in tip of next pc st, d c in next d c) twice; pc st in next d c, d c in next d c; with A, 3 d c in next d c; with B, d c in next d c. Repeat from * around. Continue thus, increasing as before with color A and making 1 pc st and 1 d c more in each pc-section with color B on each rnd, until there are 7 pc sts in each pc-section. Next rnd: With color B, ch 3, * (pc st in tip of next pc st, d c in next d c) 6 times; with color A, d c in tip of next pc st, d c in 3 d c, 3 d c in next d c, with color B, d c in next d c. Repeat from * around. Join. Continue thus, increasing as before with color A and making 1 pc st and 1 d c less in each pc-section with color B on each rnd, until 1 pc st and 1 d c remain in each pc-section. Break off B. Next rnd: With color A, ch 3, make d c in each st, increasing 12 sts evenly around. Join. Repeat last rnd until piece measures 12 inches in diameter. Work straight without increasing for 2 inches. Fasten off.
Separate upholstered part of stool from base. Cover padded surface with crocheted piece, tacking or sewing in place on underside. Now fit this par back onto base.
