MATERIALS:

J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 3 balls of Yellow, 1 ball each of Green and Blue. Different color com­binations may be used, if desired.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 or 8.
1¾ yards blue denim (36 inches wide).
1 button.

The above amount of materials is suf­ficient for entire set, consisting of a hostess apron; 4 place mats, each 11 x 17 inches; a center mat 13 x 34 inches; and 4 glass jackets. Consult individual items for individual materials.

GAUGE: 10 sts make 1 inch; 4 rows make one inch.

To Change Color: Before drawing through last 2 loops of last d c of one color-group, drop this color, pick up 2nd color, thread over and draw through the 2 loops on hook. Con­tinue with 2nd color, carrying the dropped color along top of previous row and working over it to conceal it.

HOSTESS APRON

MATERIALS:

BORDER … With yellow, ch 197 (10 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across (195 d c, counting turning ch as 1 d c). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each d c across, d c in 3rd st of turn­ing ch (195 d c). Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Holding green along top of previous row, with yellow make d c in 17 d c (thus concealing green), changing color in last yellow d c. * With green, make d c in 3 d c, carrying yellow con­cealed in d c's and changing color in last green d c. With yellow, make d c in 18 d c, carrying green concealed in d c's and changing color in last yellow d c. Repeat from * across, ending row with 3 green d c, 6 yellow d c. With yellow, ch 3, turn. 4th row: 5 yellow, * 3 green, 6 yellow, 3 green, 9 yellow. Repeat from * across. With yellow, ch 3, turn. 5th row: 5 yellow, * 6 green, 3 yellow, 3 green, 9 yellow. With yellow, ch 3, turn. 9th row: 2 yellow, * 3 blue, 3 yellow, 6 blue, 9 yellow. Repeat from * across, ending row with 3 blue, 3 yellow, 6 blue, 12 yellow. With yellow, ch 3, turn. 10th row: 14 yellow, * 6 blue, 15 yellow. Repeat from * across, end­ing row with 6 blue, 6 yellow. With yellow, ch 3, turn. Fasten off blue. 11th and 12th rows: With yellow, repeat 2nd row. Fasten off.

POCKET … Starting at bottom with yellow, ch 29. Work 1st to 12th rows inclusive of Border. Fasten off. With yellow, work a row of s c along both side edges. Fasten off.

FINISHING … Cut a piece of denim, 14 x 20½ inches. Make a ½-inch hem on one long and two short edges. Shirr other long edge to measure 10 inches. Cut a strip 3 x 29 inches for waist­band. Sew right side of center 10 inches of waistband along right side of shirred edge. Turn waistband over shirring to wrong side of Apron and sew in place, turning under raw edge. Sew remain­ing edges of band together; turning in raw edges. Sew crocheted Border to lower edge of Apron. Sew pocket in place on right-hand side. Make a but­tonhole at one end of waistband and sew a button on opposite end.

LUNCHEON SET

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 1 ball each of Yellow, Green and Blue.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 or 8.
1½ yards blue denim.

PLACE MATS … With yellow, ch 113. Work 1st to 12th rows inclusive of Border on Apron. Fasten off. Make another piece same as this.

FINISHING … Cut a piece of denim 12 x 12 inches. Make a ½-inch hem on all edges. Sew crocheted borders to 2 opposite edges. Make 3 more Place Mats same as this.

CENTER MAT … With yellow, ch 134. Work 1st to 12th rows inclusive of Border on Apron. Fasten off. Make another piece same as this.

FINISHING … Cut a piece of denim 14 x 29 inches. Finish as for Place Mat.

GLASS JACKETS

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 1 ball each of Yellow, Green and Blue.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 or 8.

BASE … Using 2 strands of yellow and working tightly, ch 2. 1st rnd: 7 s c in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 s c in each s c around. 3rd rnd: * S c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c (an increase). Repeat from * around. 4th and subsequent rnds: S c in each s c, making necessary increases to keep work flat, until there are 63 s c in rnd and piece measures about 2¾ inches in diameter. Fasten off 1 strand of yellow. Work with remaining strand as fol­lows: 1st and 2nd rnds: Ch 3 (to count as d c), d c in each st around (63 sts). Join with sl st to 3rd st of starting ch. Fit over glass for size; it should fit snugly. Do this often while working. 3rd rnd: With yellow, ch 3, holding green along top of previous rnd; with yellow make d c in 14 d c (thus concealing green), changing color in last yellow d c, * with green, make 3 d c, carrying yellow concealed in d c's and changing color in last green d c. With yellow, make d c in 18 d c, carrying green concealed in d c's and changing color in last yellow d c. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 green d c's, 3 yellow d c's. Join. 4th rnd: With yellow, ch 3, 5 yellow, * 3 green, 6 yellow, 3 green, 9 yellow. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 green, 6 yellow, 3 green, 3 yellow. Join. 5th rnd: With yellow, ch 3, 2 yellow, * 6 green, 3 yellow, 3 green, 9 yellow. Repeat from * around, ending with 6 green, 3 yellow, 3 green, 6 yellow.
