Daisy Place Mat Pattern

BASIC FOUNDATION

Make a chain 2 inches longer than desired length. ROW 1—Sk 4 ch, dc in next 4 ch, (ch 7, sk next 5 ch, dc in next 5 ch) repeated for desired length. Cut and rip excess chain. ROW 2—Ch 4. turn, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc, * ch 5, dc in next dc, (ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc) twice. Repeat from * across. ROW 3—Ch 4, turn, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, * ch 3, sc around center of next 2 lps, inserting hook under ch-7 lp in Row 1. Draw sc very tight. Ch 3, dc in next dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice. Repeat from * across. ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, * (dc in next ch-1, dc in next dc) twice, ch 7, dc in next dc. Repeat from * across. Repeat Rows 2, 3 and 4 for desired size, ending with Row 3. Heading Row—Repeat Row 4 except make ch-5 lps instead of ch-7 lps. Fasten off.

DAISY PLACE MAT

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Lily MERCROCHET Cotton size 20.
9-balls Hunter Green and 2-balls each Lt. Yellow, White and Shd. Greens;
DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 20 may be used if preferred.
Lily Pearl Cotton size 5.
1-ball Brown; sufficient for 4 Place Mats.
Crochet hooks Nos. 12 and 5.

Size—12 x 19 inches.

Starting at one end with Hunter Green and No. 12 hook, ch 218, sk 4 ch, dc in next 4 ch, (ch 7, sk 5 ch, dc in next 5 ch) repeated across. Repeat Rows 2, 3 and 4 of Basic Foundation thru Row 99 (to measure 16½ inches when stretched). Repeat Heading Row. Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st dc, (ch 8, sc in next ch-5 lp) repeated across. End with ch 8, sc in corner, fasten off. Repeat on other end.

FRINGE—Wind Hunter Green 10 times around a 1¾ inch card. Cut at one edge. Double these strands to make a loop. Insert hook up from underneath thru a ch-8 lp on one end and draw loop thru. Draw loose ends thru loop and pull tight. Make a fringe in each ch-8 lp across. Trim ends evenly. Com­plete opposite end to correspond.

FLOWER—With Lt. Yellow, ch 9, join with sl st to form ring. ROW 1—Ch 3, 19 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of ch-3. ROW 2—* Ch 21, sl st in 3d ch from hook, sc in 3 ch, hdc in 3 ch, dc in 12 ch, sk 1 dc on center, sl st in next dc. Repeat from * 9 times. Fasten off. With White repeat to *. ROW 2—** Ch 18, sl st in 3d ch from hook, sc in 3 ch, hdc in 3 ch, dc in 9 ch, sk 1 dc on center, sl st in next dc. Repeat from ** 9 times. Fasten off. Sew on top of Yellow circle with petals between Yellow petals. Center—With Brown Pearl Cotton and No. 5 hook, ch 2, 8 sc in 2d ch from hook. ROW 2—Picking up back lp only, make (2 sc in next sc, sc in next) 4 times. ROW 3—Sc in 24 sc (2 rows). Sl st in 2 sc. Fasten off. Sew on center of Flower. Make 3 Flowers for each end of Doily. LEAF—With Shd. Greens, ch 20, sc in 2d ch from hook, * hdc in next ch, dc in 2 ch, tr in 2 ch, dtr in 7 ch, tr in 2 ch, dc in 2 ch, hdc in next ch, * (sc, ch 3, sc) in end ch. Working on other side of chain, repeat from * to *. Sc in end st, ch 10, sk last ch, sc in next 9 ch for stem, sl st in leaf. Fas­ten off. Make 12 Leaves for each end of Doily.

Sew Flower and Leaves on Doily as in illustration. Stretch and pin Doily right-side-down in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.
