Bag Pattern #2349

Materials:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 3 balls of White or Ecru, or 7 balls of any color
Steel Crochet Hook No. 1
A ready-made bag foundation, 8 x 12½ in.

Gauge: Each Medallion measures about 2⅛ inches across

Divide thread into 3 equal parts and use 3 threads throughout.

A—Round Medallion (Make 48)

Starting at center, ch 4. 1st rnd: Make 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st in top st of starting chain (12 dc, counting starting chain as 1 dc). 2nd rnd: Ch 1, * sc behind next dc—to make an sc behind the dc, insert hook between next 2 sts from back to front, pass hook across next dc and insert hook between sts from front to back, thread over, pull loop through, thread over and draw through remaining 2 loops (sc will be behind the dc). Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in 1st sc. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each sc around (24 dc). Join. 4th rnd: Repeat 2nd rnd but do not join. 5th rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around, sl st in 1st sc (36 sc). Break off.

Fill-in Medallion (Make 43) ... Work 1st and 2nd rnds of Round Medallion. Break off.

Finishing ... Sew 6 x 8 Medallions together, catching only the outer loop on each of 4 sts on adjoining Me­dallions. Sew Fill-in Medallions into spaces. Fold piece in half and sew side edges. Slip bag foundation into crocheted piece and sew at top edge.

Zipper Pull ... Make 2 Fill-in Medallions and sew them together. Attach thread and make a chain inches long. Break off. Make 2 more pieces same as this. Sew chains together and fasten to zipper pull.

B—Square Medallion (Make 48)

1st and 2nd rnds: Same as 1st and 2nd rnds of (A). 3rd rnd: Ch 3, 4 dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc. Repeat from * 2 more times; dc in next 2 sc. Join. 4th rnd: Repeat 2nd rnd but do not join. 5th rnd: * Sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc. Repeat from * around, sl st in next sc. Break off.

Finishing ... Sew 6 x 8 Medallions together. Finish as for (A).
