Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats mercerized Crochet, size 10, Ecru and 106 Sport Green. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7.

With Ecru, make ch as long as desired, turn. Beginning at center panel, tr in 5th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 3 sts of ch, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Tr in next st, * ch 3, tr in each of next 2 trs. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: S c in each st across. Attach Sport Green, ch 3, turn. 4th row: D c in front loop of each st across, ch 3, turn. 5th row: D c in back loop of each st across. Attach Ecru, ch 1, turn.

6th row: S c in front loop of each st across, ch 1, turn. 7th row: S c in back loop of each st across. Attach Sport Green, ch 5, turn. 8th row: * Skip 2 sts, d c in next, ch 2, repeat from * across. Fasten off. Attach Ecru at beginning of foundation ch, and working along other side of ch, ch 4, tr in next st, * ch 3, tr in each of 2 sts into which trs were worked on opposite side of ch. Repeat from *, ch 1, turn. Repeat directions from beginning of 3rd row. Sew strip to bag as illustrated. This design is attractively adapted in vivid colors to achieve a peasant effect.
