Butterfly Bag Pattern #2064

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 3 balls of color 61-A Dark Ecru; or Clark's O.N.T. Knit-Crochet, 6 balls. The bag can also be made with two colors, making the V-sections in stripes. 1 ball contrasting color would be needed. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 1. Six-inch Talon slide fastener.

Use thread double throughout.

Side Ridged Sections: Ch 44, turn. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each st of ch, ch 3, turn. 2nd row: * Thread over, as for making d c, insert hook in sp between 1st and 2nd d c's of previous row, then bring hook out through sp between 2nd and 3rd d c 's, draw loop through and complete d c. Repeat from * along row, inserting hook in sp between next 2 d c's, ch 3, turn. 3rd row: D c in each d c, as in 1st row. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until 16 ridges are made, then break off.

Fold work so that ridges lie parallel with fold and whip across one end for bottom. Make another piece the same.

Center-V section: Ch 26, turn. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook and d c in each st of ch. Ch 3, turn. 2nd to 10th rows incl: D c in each st, skipping last st to decrease. Ch 3, turn. 11th to 13th rows incl: D c in each st, decreasing 1 st at beginning and 1 st at end of each row. Ch 3, turn.

Make another piece the same, and sew into ridged sections, with the points down as in illustration.

Handles: Ch 6, join with sl st to form ring. Make 6 s c in ring. Work s c in s c in spiral for 4½ inches. Break off and make a 2nd handle 6½ inches long. Sew on as in illustration. Sew in Talon slide fastener, and catch in sides at top to ends of fastener to form gussets.
