Materials: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 30, 1 ball each of 38 Dark Orange and 12 Black. Milward's steel crochet hook no. 8.
Center: With Orange, ch 42. Tr in 5th ch from hook, tr in each of next 4 sts, * 2 tr in next, tr in each of next 2 sts. Repeat from * along ch to within 4 sts from end. Tr in each of last 4 sts. Fasten off and attach thread at base of 4th tr. Ch 24, turn. Tr in 5th ch from hook, tr in each st of ch. Join with sl st in 1st st of turning-ch of curved part of motif.
On straight strip, count down 8 sts from st in which thread for this strip was attached. Attach Black in 8th st, ch 10. Tr in 5th ch from hook, tr in each st of ch. Join with sl st to straight strip. Fasten off. With Orange, ch 26. 2 tr in 5th ch from hook, * tr in each of next sts, 2 tr in next. Repeat from * along ch. Fasten off.
Outer circle: With Black, ch to measure 8 inches. Join with sl st to form ring. Ch 5, * tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in next. Repeat from * around and join with sl st to 5th st of ch-5. Whip motif on as shown in illustration.
