MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 4 balls of any color.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).

Use a double thread throughout.

Make a chain 40 incheslong. 1st row: Pul loop on hook out to measure ¾ inch, thread over hook and draw through loop on hook; insert hook between the double loop and single strand and draw a loop through; thread over and draw through 2 loops (a knot st made). Make another knot stitch, * skip 4 ch, sc in next ch, make 2 knot stitches. Repeat from * across (40 double knot stitch loops on the row). Make 2 knot stitches, drawing thread out to measure 1 inch instead of ¾ inch, turn (this will be referred to as 2 long knot stitches). 2nd and 3rd rows: * Insert hook under the double loop on right side of knot (at center of next double loop) and draw loop through, insert hook under the double loop on left side of knot and draw a loop through; thread over and draw through all 3 loops. Make 2 knot stitches, drawing loop out to measure ¾ inch. Repeat from * across. Make 2 long knot stitches, turn. Make only 1 long knot st to turn at the end of the 3rd row. 4th row: Draw out a loop on each side of next center knot (1 double loop decreased), thread over and draw through all three loops. Make 2 knot stitches and work as before across row. Make 1 long knot st, turn. Repeat the 4th row until 1 double loop remains. Do not fasten off but work around all sides as follows:

EDGING … 1st rnd:Work sc's around, keeping work flat. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: Ch 8, in same place as sl st make (d tr, ch 3) 3 times and d tr; * ch 2, skip 2 sc, dc in next sc, ch 2, skip 2 sc, in next sc make (d tr, ch 3) 4 times and d tr. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-2 with sl st to 5th ch of ch-8. 3rd rnd: Ch 6, * dc in next sp, ch 3, dc in next d tr, ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. Press.
