Insertion Pattern #978

Materials: Choose one of the following threads in White or Ecru:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 3 balls.
J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 3 balls.
J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 2 balls.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12.
1 yd. marquisette, 40 inches wide.

When completed, curtain measures about 35 inches long. The filet insertion measures about 30 inches wide. Material should be about 1⅓ times width of insertion.

Gauge: 7 sps make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at bottom, make a chain to measure about 33 inches long, turn. 1st row: D c in 8th ch from hook (1 sp made), * ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch (another sp made). Repeat from * across until 210 sps are made. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 5, turn. 2nd to 4th rows incl: Make sp over sp across. Ch 5, turn. 5th row: 107 sps, 2 d c in next sp, d c in next d c (1 bl made), sp over sp across. Ch 5, turn. Hereafter follow chart from "X" until design is completed. Break off.

Measure off 2 pieces of marquisette, each 16 inches long and the full width of material. Make a ¼-inch hem on each selvage. Then make a ¼-inch hem on one other edge of each piece, and gather to measure 30 inches, or width of filet insertion. Sew insertion to marquisette as in illustration. Make a 1½-inch hem on both ends of curtain. Divide these hems in half with a seam, thus making a heading and a casing for rods to pass through on either end.
