Morning Glory Afghan and Pillow Pattern #6000

AFGHAN No. 6000-A

Approximately 53 x 65 Inches

MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Afghan Wool, 24 skeins (1 oz. skeins) of Light Rose, 22 skeins of Renaissance Rose, and 12 skeins of Violet.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).

Gauge: Hexagon measures 5½ inches from point to opposite point; 5¼ inches from side to side. Each side measures 3 inches.

HEXAGON … Starting at center, with Violet ch 3, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), d c in ring, * ch 1, 2 d c in ring. Repeat from * 4 more times, ch 1, join to 3rd st of ch-3. 2nd rnd: * Ch 6, tr tr at base of ch-6 (in 1st d c of 2-d c group), tr tr in next d c, ch 6, sl st in same d c, s c in ch-1 sp, sl st in next d c. Repeat from * around, ending with s c in ch-1 sp, sl st at base of starting ch-6. Fasten off. 3rd rnd: Attach Light Rose at a tr tr, s c in same st, * s c in next tr tr and in top ch of ch-6 following; half d c in next ch of same ch-6, d c in next ch, d c in 3rd ch from top on next ch-6, half d c in next ch, s c in next ch, s c in tr tr. Repeat from * around, ending with s c in top of ch-6; join. 4th rnd: Ch 3, yarn over, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook and draw loop through; yarn over, insert hook in next ch and draw loop through; yarn over, insert hook in next st of previous rnd and draw loop through; yarn over and draw through all 7 loops on hook, ch 1 tightly (a group); yarn over, insert hook in ch-1 of group just made and draw loop through; yarn over, insert hook under 1 strand of previous group and draw loop through; yarn over, insert hook in next st of previous rnd and draw loop through; yarn over and draw through all loops, ch 1 tightly (another group); ch 2 more, make another group like previous one in same st of previous rnd (an increase—this is corner of hexagon). Continue to work a group in each st around, making ch-2 and an extra group at each corner. Join and break off. (The following 3 rnds flatten the edges of the hexagon.) 5th rnd: Attach Renaissance Rose at a ch-1 sp between groups, ch 1 (to count as s c), s c in each ch-1 around and in ch-2 sps at corners. Join. 6th rnd: Ch 1, s c in each s c around. Join. 7th rnd: Ch 1, s c in each s c around, making 3 s c in st directly above corner increases. Join and break off. Make 142 hexagons and sew together as in chart with neat over-and-over stitches on wrong side.

Work 2 Violet tassel-fringes along each short row of hexagons as follows: Draw ten 11-inch strands through stitch. Form a loop and draw all ends through loop to form a knot. Trim all fringe evenly to length of long rows.

PILLOW No. 6000-B

MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Afghan Wool, 4 skeins (1 oz. skeins) of Renaissance Rose, 4 skeins of Light Rose and 2 skeins of Violet.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).
A round pillow, 15 inches in diameter.

Make 14 hexagons as for Afghan. Join 7, as in illustration, for each side of pillow. Block pieces. Sew sides together, inserting pillow, and tack securely along circumference. Make 6 tassel-fringes as for Afghan.
