MATERIALS:
CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS BIG BALL BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 50, 35 balls of White or Ecru.
MILWARD'S Steel Crochet Hook No. 12.

GAUGE … 9 sps make 2 inches; 9 rows make 2 inches. Completed block measures about 15 inches square. For a tablecloth 75 x 90 inches, make 5 x 6 blocks.

BLOCK … Starting at bottom of chart, make a chain about 20 inches long (18 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Tr in 5th ch from hook and in next 7 ch (9 tr, counting turning ch). Then (ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch) twice—a shadow sp made. Make another shadow sp, make tr in next 8 ch—2 bls made; (2 shadow sps, 2 bls) 6 times; 2 shadow sps, tr in next 16 ch—4 bls made; (2 shadow sps, 2 bls) 8 times. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 4, turn.

   2nd row: Tr in next 4 tr—a bl made. (Ch 1, skip 1 tr, tr in next tr) twice—a shadow sp over a bl. (Tr in next ch, tr in next tr) 4 times—2 bls made over 2 shadow sps. Make (2 shadow sps, 2 bls) 7 times; 4 shadow sps, (2 bls, 2 shadow sps) 7 times; 2 bls, 1 shadow sp, 1 bl. Ch 5 to count as tr and ch-1, turn. 3rd row: Skip 1 tr, tr in next tr, ch 1, skip 1 tr, tr in next tr (a shadow sp made at beginning of row), 1 bl, 64 shadow sps, 1 bl, 1 shadow sp. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: Same as 3rd row. Ch 4, turn. 5th row: 1 bl, 8 shadow sps, ch 3, skip next tr, make tr in next tr—1 sp made over a shadow sp. Make 49 more sps, 8 shadow sps, 1 bl. Ch 4, turn.

   6th row: 1 bl, 8 shadow sps, ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next tr—shadow sp made over a sp. Make 2 more shadow sps, ch 3, tr in next tr—sp made over sp. Make 43 more sps, 11 shadow sps, 1 bl. Ch 5, turn. 7th row: 1 shadow sp, 1 bl, 10 shadow sps, 44 sps, 10 shadow sps, 1 bl, 1 shadow sp. Now follow chart to top, starting at 8th row. Fasten off.

   This completes one block. Make 5 x 6 blocks and sew together on wrong side with neat over-and-over stitches. Block cloth to measure 75 x 90 inches.
