GAUGE … Each motif measures 3¾ inches square before blocking. For a tablecloth about 72 x 90 inches, make 18 x 23 motifs.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 10, join with sl st to form a ring. 1st rnd: Ch 4, 2 tr in ring, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr; thread over and draw through all 3 loops on hook (a cluster made). * Ch 4, make 3 tr in ring, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr; thread over and draw through all 4 loops on hook (another cluster). Repeat from * until 8 clusters in all are made; ch 4, sl st in tip of 1st cluster made. 2nd rnd: Sl st in next ch, s c in sp, ch 4 (to count as tr), 2 tr in same sp as s c, * ch 4, 5 tr in next sp, ch 4, 3 tr in next sp. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4, sl st in 4th st of ch-4 first made. 3rd rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), d c in same place as sl st, * in next tr make d c, ch 2 and d c; 2 d c in next tr. Ch 4, s c in next 5 tr, ch 4, 2 d c in next tr. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made.
   4th rnd: Ch 3, d c in next 2 d c, * in next sp make d c, ch 2 and d c, d c in next 3 d c, (ch 4, s c in next s c) 5 times. Ch 4, d c in next 3 d c. Repeat from * around, joining as before. 5th rnd: Ch 3, d c in next 2 d c, * ch 2, skip next d c, in next sp make 4 d c with ch-2 between. Ch 2, skip next d c, d c in next 3 d c. (Ch 4, skip next s c, s c in next loop) 4 times, ch 4, d c in next 3 d c.    10th rnd: Sl st in next 2 d c, in following 2 ch and in next d c. Ch 3, * 2 d c in next sp, d c in next d c, ch 2, d c in next d c, 2 d c in next sp, d c in next d c, ch 2, d c in tip of next cluster, ch 2, skip next sp and cluster. In next sp make 5 tr with ch-2 between. Ch 2, skip next cluster and sp, d c in tip of next cluster. (Ch 2, d c in next d c, 2 d c in next sp, d c in next d c) twice; ch 4, skip next sp. D c in next 6 d c, holding back on hook the last loop of each d c; thread over and draw through all 7 loops on hook, ch 4, skip next sp, d c in next d c. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF ... Work 1st 9 rnds as for first motif. 10th rnd: Work as for 10th rnd of first motif, to the 3rd tr inclusive of first corner. Now (ch 1, s c in corresponding sp on first motif, ch 1, tr in same corner sp on motif in work) twice; ch 1, s c in corresponding sp on first motif, ch 1, skip next cluster and sp on motif in work, d c in tip of next cluster. (Ch 1, s c in corresponding sp on first motif, ch 1, d c in next d c on motif in work, 2 d c in next sp, d c in next d c) twice. Ch 2, s c in corresponding sp on first motif, ch 2, d c in next 6 d c on motif in work, holding back on hook the last loop of each d c; thread over and draw through all 7 loops on hook. This completes half of joining. Join other half to correspond and complete remainder of rnd as for first motif (no more joinings).
   Make 18 x 23 motifs, joining them as second motif was joined to first (corner tr's are not joined).

EDGING … Attach thread to center tr at one corner of cloth, ch 8 (to count as d c and ch-5), d c in same place as thread was attached, * make sps, using ch 2 and d c over each of next 4 sps, sp over next bl, sp over sp, sp over bl. Ch 2, d c in next sp, ch 2, d c in tip of cluster, ch 2, d c in next sp. Ch 2, d c in next d c. (Sp over bl, sp over sp) twice; sp over next 3 sps, ch 2, d c in center tr at corner of next motif. Repeat from * around, making d c, ch 5 and d c at each corner. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-8 first made. 2nd rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 4 (to count as tr) and complete a cluster in same sp. (Ch 5, make a cluster in same sp as last cluster) twice. * Ch 5, skip 1 sp, cluster in next sp. Repeat from * around, making 3 clusters with ch-5 between at each corner. Join last ch-5 to tip of 1st cluster made.
   3rd rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), d c in same sp, ch 2, d c in tip of next cluster, ch 5, d c in same place. * Ch 2, d c in next sp, ch 2, d c in same sp. Repeat from * around, working over each corner as for first corner; join. 4th rnd: Sl st in sp, s c in same sp, * ch 5, skip 1 sp. In next sp make d c, ch 3 and d c; ch 5, skip 1 sp, s c in next sp. Repeat from * around, always having d c, ch 3 and d c in each corner sp. Join last ch-5 to 1st s c made. Fasten off.
