Useful Edging Pattern #742
Useful edgings with endless application. Ranging from airy daintiness for light, delicate work to dignified distinction for more formal pieces, they provide a noteworthy finish to clothes and household linens alike. Materials suggested: American Thread Company "Silkine", "Star" or "Gem" Mercerized Crochet Cotton sizes 20 to 50. "Silkine" or Star Pearl Cotton size 5, "De Luxe" Crochet and Knitting Cotton. For dainty Edging use American Thread Company "Silkine", Mercerized Crochet Cotton sizes 50 to 100 or "Silkine" Tatting Cotton, White or Colors.
1st Row. Ch 6, 1 d c in first st of ch, * ch 6, and without turning, work 1 d c in ring formed by last ch 6 and d c, repeat from * for length required.
2nd Row. Ch 7, turn, 1 short d c in last 6 ch loop, * ch 3, 1 s d c in next 6 ch loop, repeat from * to end of row.
3rd Row. Ch 3, * 3 d c over next 3 ch of last row, 1 d c in next s d c, repeat from * to end of row, break thread.
4th Row. Return to beginning of last row and join to 2nd d c, * ch 6, skip 3 d c, sl st in next d c, repeat from * to end of row, break thread.
5th Row. Join to first ch 6 of preceding row, **, ch 6, 1 s c in next 6 ch loop, ch 11, 2 d c in 5th st from hook working off only 2 loops of each, thread over and pull through remaining loops on needle, work a 5 ch picot at top, ch 4, sl st in same st with d c, * ch 4, and work 2 more d c in same st working off in same way as first group, picot, ch 4, sl st in same st with d c, repeat from *, ch 6, skip one 6 ch loop, s c in next loop. Repeat from ** to end of row omitting 5 ch picot in 1st petal of each group and substituting instead, ch 2, sl st in picot on 3rd petal of previous group, ch 2, sl st in top of last petal.
