Materials Required

BAG No. 787
DRITZ Belastraw Art. No. 110,
2 tubes of Main Color, 1 tube of Contrasting Color.
DRITZ Steel Crochet Hooks Nos. 1 and 2.
DRITZ Bag Lining No. 759 (Zipper Top).
DRITZ Ornamental Zipper Pull.

GAUGE: No. 2 hook--6 sc make 1".
No. 1 hook--5 dc make 1".

WIDE 'N HANDSOME BAG--No. 787

BOTTOM: With Contrasting Color and No. 2 hook ch 35 to measure 6 1/4".

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch (34 sc). Ch 1, turn.

2nd to 15th rows incl: Sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn.

16th row: 3 sc in 1st sc (corner) sc in 32 sc, 3 sc in last sc (corner), sc in the end of each of next 13 rows, 3 sc in next sc (corner), sc in 32 sc, 3 sc in last sc (corner), sc in the end of each of next 13 rows (102 sc). Join and end off. Piece should measure about 6 1/4" by 2 3/8".

SIDE: 1st rnd: Attach Main Color in an sc on right corner of a narrow end; with No. 1 hook, ch 3 (to count as 1 dc), dc in each sc around. Join with sl st in top of starting ch 3 (102 dc).

2nd to 10th rnds: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join (102 dc).

11th rnd: Mark center 3 sts on each narrow end. Ch 3 and work dc around working 2 dc in each marked st (108 dc). Join. Work 3 rnds straight. Repeat last 4 rnds 2 more times (120 dc). End off.

MESH: 1st rnd: Attach Contrasting Color in base of starting ch 3 on 1st rnd of Side, ch 1, sc where yarn was attached, * ch 5, skip next 2 dc, sc in same place as next dc. Repeat from * ending with ch 2, dc in 1st sc (34 loops).

2nd rnd: * Ch 5, insert hook through next loop and in base of next corresponding dc on following rnd and pull loop through, complete an sc. Repeat from * ending with ch 2, dc in top of dc. Repeat 2nd rnd until 10 rnds of loops have been made.

Next rnd: Mark center loop on each narrow end. Work same as last rnd, only, when you reach each marked loop make sc, ch 5 and sc in each marked loop. There are 2 loops increased. Repeat 2nd rnd 3 more times.

Repeat last 4 rnds 2 more times (40 loops).

Next rnd: Work sc around catching center of each loop. Work 1 more rnd of sc. End off.

Mount on DRITZ Bag Lining No. 759. Fasten DRITZ Ornamental Zipper Pull with a 4" chain.

HANDLE: With Main Color ch 83. Work 7 rows same as Bottom (82 sc). Drop Main Color.

MESH: 1st row: Attach Contrasting Color in base of 1st sc on 2nd row, ch 1, sc in same place, * ch 5, skip next 2 sc, sc in base of next sc. Repeat from *. End off.

2nd row: Insert hook through 1st loop of last row * and in base of next corresponding sc on 5th row and pull loop through, complete and sc, ch 5, insert hook in next loop. Repeat from *. End off. Pick up Main Color, ch 1, turn and work sc's across catching center of each loop. End off. With Contrasting Color work sc all around edge. End off. Sew ends of Handle in place.
