FINISHING: Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves, easing extra fullness in across top 3 inches of shoulder. With basting thread, mark line of de­creases at sides of front and back gores, continuing to neckline, having 3 inches between basting threads at neck edge. Sew flowers along basting thread, as in illustration. Sew on buttons.

BONNET

CENTER BACK … With size 20 thread, make a chain about 8" long (12 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Insert hook in 6th ch from hook and * draw loop through, insert hook in next ch and draw loop through; thread over and draw through 2 loops, thread over and draw through 1 loop, thread over and draw through 2 loops (thus forming a sp followed by a single loop and a group); ch 1, insert hook in next ch. Repeat from * until there are 34 sps. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Insert hook be­tween 1st group and the single loop following and draw loop through, * in­sert hook between single loop and next group and draw loop through, then com­plete group as before. Ch 1, insert hook between next group and single loop fol­lowing and draw loop through. Repeat from * across, ending with a group stitch in the sp just before the turning ch (34 sps). Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 1 inch in all. Dec 1 sp at both ends of next row and every 6th row thereafter until 22 sps remain. To dec 1 sp (insert hook between group and single loop following and draw loop through, insert hook between single loop and next group and draw loop through) twice, thread over and draw through 4 loops, thread over and draw through 1 loop, thread over and draw through 2 loops. Work over remaining 22 sps until piece measures 6 inches in all. Fasten off.

Right Back … Ch 11. Work 1st and 2nd rows as for Center Back (3 sps). Inc 1 sp at both ends of next row—to inc at beginning of row, ch 6 to turn, draw up 1st loop in 4th ch from hook and 2nd loop in 5th ch. Complete group; to inc at end of row, work across to last group, insert hook where last loop was pulled through, and draw loop through, insert hook between group and single loop and draw loop through, finish group stitch; ch 1, insert hook where last loop was pulled through and draw loop through, insert hook between single loop and turning ch and draw loop through; finish group stitch. Make a buttonhole 2 sps in from outer edge when piece measures ¾ inch—to make a buttonhole, ch 5, skip 2 sps and continue across row. On next row work 2 sps in ch to replace those skipped. Hereafter inc 1 sp at inner edge on each row and 1 sp at outer edge every 4th row until there are 40 sps. Work 1 row straight, fasten off.

Left Back … Work to correspond with Right Back. Attach thread at outer edge of Right Back, work across; then work across the 22 sps of Center Back; then work across Left Back (102 sps). Work in pattern until piece measures 8 inches up Center Back. Dec 1 sp at both ends of next row and every 3rd row thereafter until 90 sps remain. Work straight until piece measures 10½ inches up Center Back. Next row: Work across 45 sps. Turn and work over this half only, de­creasing 1 sp at both ends of each row until 16 sps remain. Fasten off. Attach thread where work was divided and work over remaining 45 sps to correspond.

FINISHING … Make 31 flowers as for dress. Starting at point of Right Back, make a row of sc all around edge, work­ing over millinery wire, to corresponding point of Left Back. Fasten ends of wire securely. Sew button on right side at center lower edge of Center Back and fasten Left and Right backs to it. Sew on snap fasteners to hold points of Cen­ter back in place. Sew ribbon ties to under side of brim. Sew flowers on under side of brim across front between ties.
