BODICEFront … Make a chain about 6" long (8 ch sts to 1"). 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 3 ch, in next ch make (dc, ch 2) twice and dc (a shell is made); ch 2, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch (a pattern made). Repeat from * across until there are

patterns. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 5, turn.

2nd row: Dc in 1st sc, * ch 2, sc in center st of shell below, ch 2, shell in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 2, in last sc make dc, ch 2 and dc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in 1st dc, * ch 2, shell in next sc, ch 2, sc in center st of shell below. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 2, sc in 3rd st of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 2", ending with 3rd row. Do not ch to turn.

To Shape Armholes: Sl st across shell to next sc, sl st in sc, ch 5, dc in same sc, ch 2, sc in center st of shell below, ch 2, shell in next sc. Continue in pat­tern across to 2nd sc from end, in this sc make dc, ch 2 and dc. Ch 1, turn.

Continue in pattern over remaining

Right Back … Make a chain about 9" long (8 ch sts to 1").
   On size 2 only, work as for 1st row of front until there are 6 patterns. Cut off remaining ch. Work as for front until piece measures 2".
   On size 4 only, 1st row: Work as for 1st row of front until there are 6 pat­terns; then ch 2, skip 3 ch, in next ch make dc, ch 2 and dc (6½ patterns). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in 1st dc, * ch 2, shell in next sc, ch 2, sc in center st of shell below. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 2, in next sc make dc, ch 2 and dc. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 2".

To Shape Armhole: Sl st across 1 pat­tern. Work over remaining

Left Back … Work to correspond with right back. Sew underarm and shoulder seams.

Waist Beading … With right side facing, attach thread to lower edge at right back center. Ch 6, * skip 3 ch on foundation, dc in next ch, ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd st of starting ch. There must be 48 sps on size 2, or 52 sps on size 4.

SKIRT ... 1st rnd: * Ch 2, 3 dc in next sp, (ch 2, sc in next dc, ch 2, shell in next sp) 3 times; ch 2, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, sl st in base of 1st ch-2 made. 2nd rnd: Ch 5, dc in same place as sl st, * ch 2, dc in 3 dc, ch 2, in next sc make dc, ch 2 and dc, (ch 2, sc in center st of next shell, ch 2, shell in next sc) twice; ch 2, sc in center st of next shell, ch 2, in next sc make dc, ch 2 and dc. Repeat from * around, end­ing with ch 2, sl st in 3rd st of 1st ch-5 made. 3rd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 2, dc in 3 dc, (ch 2, sc in next dc, ch 2, shell in next sc) 3 times; ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, sl st in 1st sc made. 4th rnd: Repeat 2nd rnd. 5th rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 2, 2 dc in next dc (an inc), dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc (another inc), (ch 2, sc in next dc, ch 2, shell in next sc) 3 times; ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc. Fasten off.

Neck Beading … Attach thread at back neck edge and work beading along entire neck edge as for waist beading. Ch 1, turn. Work sc closely along top of beading. Fasten off. Work 6 ch-4 loops along right back opening. Sew on buttons.

SLEEVES … Ch 86 (to measure about 9"). Work beading as follows: Dc in 10th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 3 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 1st row: Sc in 1st dc, ch 2, (shell in next dc, ch 2, sc in next dc, ch 2) 3 times, (shell in next sp, ch 2, sc in next dc)

(Ch 2, shell in next dc, ch 2, sc in next dc) twice; ch 2, shell in next dc, ch 2, skip 3 ch of turning ch, sc in next ch. Ch 5, turn. Work 2nd and 3rd rows of front alternately until piece measures 2½" in all.

To shape top, sl st across 1 pattern at beginning of each row until 2 patterns remain. Fasten off.
   Sew up sleeve seams and sew sleeves in, shirring extra fullness in top 3" at shoulder. Work a row of sc along left back opening; work 6 ch-4 loops evenly along right back opening. Sew on but­tons. Press through damp cloth. Run vel­vet ribbon through headings.
