Boucle Collar Pattern #2220

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Boucle, 2 balls. Besides White or any preferred solid color, many like the interesting effect of a shaded color. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3.

Collar. Starting at neck edge, ch 122 (to measure about 17 inches), turn and work s c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch across (121 s c). Ch 1, turn. Work 4 more rows of s c. At end of last row, ch 3, turn and work in pattern as follows: 1st row: D c in 1st s c, * ch 2, d c in same s c, skip 3 s c, 2 d c in next s c, ch 2, 2 d c in same s c, skip 3 s c, d c in next s c. Repeat from * across, ending row with d c, ch 2 and d c in last s c. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: * D c in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, d c in same sp, ch 4, s c in next ch-2 sp, ch 4. Repeat from * across, ending row with d c, ch 2 and d c in last ch-2 sp. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: * D c in ch-2 sp, ch 2, d c in same sp, ch 1, 3 d c in ch-4 sp, ch 3, 3 d c in next ch-4 sp, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending row with d c, ch 2 and d c in last ch-2 sp. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: * D c in ch-2 sp, ch 2, d c in same sp, ch 1, 2 d c in ch-3 sp, ch 2, 2 d c in same sp, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending row with d c, ch 2 and d c in last ch-2 sp. Ch 3, turn. 5th row: Same as 2nd row, but making ch 5, instead of ch-4. 6th row: Same as 3rd row, but making ch 2, instead of ch-1. 7th row: Same as 4th row, but making ch 2, instead of ch-1. 8th row: Same as 5th row. 9th row: Same as 3rd row, but making ch 3, instead of ch-1. 10th row: * D c in ch-2 sp, ch 2, d c in same sp, ch 4, skip 1st ch-3 sp and next 3 d c, 2 d c in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, 2 d c in same sp, ch 4, skip next 3 d c and ch-2 sp. Repeat from * across, ending row with d c, ch 2 and d c in last ch-2 sp, then ch 3, sl st to base of last d c made. Break off.

Edging. Attach thread to one end of foundation ch, and working along short side of collar, ch 3, d c in 3rd row of s c, make a ch-3 p, d c in same place, ch-3 p, d c in same place, ch-3 p, d c in same place (1 shell made), ch 3, and make 5 more shells with ch-5 between the shells, across to corner (having a shell in every other openwork row). Then ch 3, * shell in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, s c in ch-4 sp, ch 3. Repeat from * along outside edge. Then make other short side to correspond with opposite side. Break off.

Strings. Make 2 chains, each to measure about 9 inches long. Break off. Sew strings to neck edge, one on each side of collar, and finish opposite ends with tassels. Block and press collar into shape.
