French Scarf Pattern #2020

There are slight variations to materials and instructions between these two versions of the same pattern in different publications. Two versions are below.

 

French Collar Pattern #2020 from Spool Cotton #55, Crocheted Neckwear.

Materials:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 10, White, 4 balls.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3.

Ch 42, turn. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 st of ch, s c in next, repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c over ch-1 loop, * ch 1, s c over next ch-1 loop. Repeat from * across, ending with s c in turning ch, to keep edge of scarf straight. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until work measures 23½ inches. Then ch 6, turn.

** 1st row: Tr in next st, ch 4, tr in same st. * Skip 3 sts, tr in next st, ch 4, tr in same st, ch 4, tr in same st. Repeat from * across, ch 6, turn. 2nd row: Tr under 1st loop, ch 4, tr under same loop. * Skip 1 loop, tr under next, ch 4, tr under same loop, ch 4, tr under same loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. Repeat 2nd row 17 more times. Break off. Attach thread at other end, ch 6, and repeat from **.

 

French Collar Pattern #2020 from Spool Cotton #81, Neckwear.

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 10, 4 balls of White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 2.

To begin, ch 42, turn. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, and s c in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until work measures 24 inches. Then work a row of s c across the two long sides. Do not break off but ch 6, and work lace end across the short side as follows:

Lace End: 1st row: Tr in 1st s c, ch 4, tr in same sc,* skip 3 s c, tr in next s c, ch 4, tr in same s c, ch 4, tr in same s c. Repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. 2nd row: Tr in 1st loop, ch 4, tr in same loop, * skip next loop, tr in next loop, ch 4, tr in same loop, ch 4, tr in same loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. Repeat 2nd row until lace end measures 8 inches. Break off. Attach thread to opposite side and work lace end to correspond.
