The Kerchief Pattern #2033

Materials:
Clark's O.N.T. Knit-Crochet, 2 balls of color 101 Tobacco Brown and 1 ball of color 78 Turquoise.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4.

To begin, ch 314, turn. 1st row: 1 d c in 4th ch from hook, 1 d c in next st, * ch 2, skip 2 sts, d c in each of next 2 sts. Repeat from * 37 more times (39 groups of 2-d c). Then, to make decrease for front point of kerchief, skip 4 sts, d c in each of next 2 sts. (Entire point is made with 2 groups of 2-d c without the ch-2 between.) * Ch 2, skip 2 sts, d c in each of next 2 sts, repeat from * to end of row. Ch 3, turn.

2nd row: 2 d c in 1st sp, * ch 2, 2 d c in next sp, and repeat from * to front point. Do not make 2 d c in point, but work as before, omitting the ch-2, and making 2 d c in sp on other side of point. Then ch 2, 2 d c in next sp and continue to end of row. Ch 3, turn. The work decreases gradually at the ends, to form a triangle. 3rd to 6th rows incl: Same as 2nd row. At end of 6th row, break off Brown and attach Turquoise. Work 5 rows as before.

12th row: Attach Brown and work 4 rows. 16th row: Attach Turquoise and work 3 rows. 19th row: Attach Brown and complete kerchief, work­ing as before. Break off thread.

Edge: Attach Brown at start of foundation ch, 3 s c in sp, * ch 3, s c in 3rd s c just made (for a picot), 3 s c in next sp. Repeat from * around the 2 sides. Continue making 3 s c and picots across top, keeping work flat.

The kerchief may also be made with Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton. A variety of attractive color combinations may be worked out—such as 126 Spanish Red and White; 82 Autumn Glow and 38 Dark Orange; 106 Sport Green and 9 Yellow; 88 Peach and 25 Crystal Blue; 68 Skipper Blue and 70 Blue Jewel; 55 Navy Blue and 126 Spanish Red.
