MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 7 balls of White; 3 balls of Red; 2 balls of Green ... Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

A—ROUND POTHOLDER

Starting at center with White, ch 4. 1st rnd: 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st in top of starting chain. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in each dc around, increasing 7 sc evenly around—to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc. 3rd rnd: Ch 3 and dc in each sc around, increasing 12 dc evenly around—to inc 1 dc. make 2 dc in 1 sc. Join. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rnds alternately until piece measures 7 inches in diameter, ending with a dc rnd. Break off. Make another piece same as this.

SMALL ROSETTE (Make 3) ... With Red, ch 8. Join to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 6, (dc in ring, ch 3) 5 times; sl st in 3rd ch of ch-6. 2nd rnd: In each ch-3 loop make sc, half dc, 3 dc, half dc and sc. Join and break off.

LARGE ROSETTE ... Work first 2 rnds as for Small Rosette. 3rd rnd: * Ch 5, sc between 2 sc of next 2 petals. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: In each ch-5 loop make sc, half dc, 5 dc, half dc and sc. Join. 5th rnd: Same as 3rd rnd, making ch-7 (in­stead of ch-5). 6th rnd: In each ch-7 loop make sc, half dc, 7 dc, half dc and sc. Join and break off.

SMALL LEAF (Make 12) ... With Green, ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, half dc in next ch, dc in next 4 ch,3 dc in next ch; working along oppo­site side of starting chain, make dc in next 4 ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in turning chain. Break off.

LARGE LEAF (Make 6) ... With Green, ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, half dc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, (2 tr in next ch) twice; 6 tr in next ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, make (2 tr in next ch) twice; dc in next 2 ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next ch. Join and break off.

STEM ... With Green, make a chain 10 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Break off.

Place the 2 round crocheted pieces over each other with wrong sides facing and, working over both thicknesses with White, make sc closely around, leaving 6 inches free. Now work sc over remainder of rnd on each piece separately.

EDGING ... 1st rnd: Attach Red to any sc on outer rnd, sc in same place, * ch 5, skip 3 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around, working over the one thickness only at opening. Join with sl st in first sc. 2nd rnd: In each sp around make sc, half dc, 3 dc, half dc and sc. Join and break off. Trim one side of Potholder with Rosettes, Stem and Leaves. Sew a ring at edge.

B—SQUARE POTHOLDER

Starting at center, ch 4. 1st rnd: 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, 2 sc in same place as sl st, * sc in next 2 dc, 3 sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc where the first 2 sc were made. Sl st in first sc. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, * dc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 5 dc in center sc. Repeat from * around, ending with 2 dc where first 2 dc were made. Sl st in top of ch-3. 4th rnd: Ch 1, 2 sc in same place as sl st, * sc in each dc to center dc of next 5-dc group, 3 sc in center dc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc where first 2 sc were made. Join. Re­peat 3rd and 4th rnds alternately until piece measures 6¾ inches square, end­ing with a dc-rnd. Break off. Make another piece same as this. Place cro­cheted pieces over each other with wrong sides facing and, working over both thicknesses with White, make sc along 3 sides, then continue making sc on remaining side of each piece sepa­rately.

EDGING ... With Red work 2 rows of Edging same as for Round Potholder. Make one Large Rosette, 3 Small Rosettes, 6 Large Leaves and 8 Small Leaves as for Round Potholder. Trim one side as desired. Sew ring at corner.
