BOTTOM
Starting at center ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd - Ch 2, 12 h dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of 1st h dc.
2nd rnd—Ch 2, 2 h dc in same place as sl st, 2 h dc in each st around. Join to top of 1st h dc.
3rd rnd—Ch 2, h dc in same place as sl st, * 2 h dc in next st, h dc in next st. Repeat from * around (12 sts increased in rnd). Join.
Continue in this manner, increasing 12 sts on each rnd, being careful not to make increases directly over previous increases, until circle measures 5½" in diameter. Work 1 rnd even. Join and turn.

SIDES
1st rnd—Ch 2, then work h dc in single front loop only of each st around, thus leaving a chain ridge on right side of work for bottom edge. Join and turn.
2nd rnd—Working through 2 top loops only of each st, work h dc around. Join to top of 1st h dc.
3rd rnd—Working in the single back loop only of each st, work h dc in each h dc around, thus leaving chain ridge on right side of work. Join as before.
Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rnds alternately until sides are 8", ending with 3rd rnd. Join and fasten off.

HANDLE
Make a chain 2¼" long and work in pattern stitch until piece measures 5". Fasten off. Make another piece in same way but do not fasten off, continue working in pattern, decreasing 2 sts at each end of each row until all sts are worked off. Work sl st around both handle pieces.

FINISHING
Cut circle of cardboard exact size of bottom of bag. Cut linings following directions in kit H-113. Cut a piece of buckram 5" wide and long enough to go around cardboard circle. Sew one long edge of buckram around edge of cardboard. Make outer lining, insert cardboard and buckram interlining, tack together along bottom seam and at top of buckram. Make inner lining and slip into place. Sew slide fastener between both linings across center 8" of opening. Place lining in bag and sew in place, also tacking crocheted fabric to top of buckram. Line handle pieces. Slip straight piece of handle through ring and sew both ends to top of bag at one end of slide fastener. Sew straight end of other handle piece to opposite side of bag. Draw through ring and secure with snap fastener.
