Monogram Guest Towel Decorative Crochet Pattern TW363

MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats Tatting-Crochet, Size 70: 2 balls of No. 37 Dk. Lavender and 1 ball of No. 12 Black, and
J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 5: 1 ball of No. 37 Dk. Lavender.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 14.
A yellow guest towel.

   Make a sketch of monogram desired having initial 1½ inches high.

MAIN BAR ... Starting at long side with Lavender make a chain twice as long as length desired. 1st row: Cut 3 strands of Pearl Cotton slightly longer than length desired. Holding Pearl Cotton strands over chain and working over them, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off. 2nd row: Attach Black and sc in each sc across.

NARROW STRIP ... Make a chain the same length as sketch. Work as for Main Bar.

CROSS BAR ... Make a chain the same length as sketch and work as before.
   Double main bar and sew in place, having Black on outer edges. Pin initials to sketch. Sew in place on towel.

EDGING ... With Black, make a chain slightly longer than length de­sired. 1st row: Dc in 6th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * across until piece meas­ures length desired, having number of sps divisible by 3. Break off. Cut off remaining chain. 2nd row: Attach Lavender to first sp, sc in same sp, * ch 12, skip 1 sp, sc in next sp, ch 2, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Cut 3 strands of Pearl Cotton slightly longer than edging; holding strands over last row and working over them, make * 16 sc in next loop, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Break off. 4th row: Attach Black and sc in each sc across. Break off.

HEADING ... Attach Lavender Pearl Cotton to straight edge. Cut 3 strands of Lavender slightly longer than edg­ing. Holding strands over straight edge make 3 sc in each sp across. Break off. 2nd row: Attach Black and sc in each sc across. Break off.
   Sew Edging to towel. Make another edging and sew to opposite end of towel.
